Logan smiled sheepishly as he lay on the couch. His mind was a whirlwind of how the day had unfolded. He wondered why Marissa cannot be just as gentle and nice as Elena, but then he can seem to keep his mind off why Elena would go that far to get him nice stuff. Her words rang in his ears. “Don't keep me waiting too long.”
“What does that even mean?” Logan asked himself as he rolled on the couch. This might be it; he might finally land himself a woman, but the thought of getting married to a sophisticated person was too much for him. All he ever wanted was a woman who didn't know much about him or about his past. He closed his eyes, wishing the following day would bring him happy memories. All he needed to do now was to forget about today and, of course, about Marrisa.
The chirping sound of the early birds woke Logan up. He jumped out of bed and rushed into the bathroom. He was thirty minutes late for work. He was about to lock the front door when Marrisa’s call came in. “Not today.” Logan said under his breath as he cut off the call. He ran into his truck and was soon on his way to work. He looked at the traffic ahead; it was much.
Logan decided to hit a one-way street with the siren on top of his car. “Mr. Logan, we have been waiting for you.” One of the doctors said immediately. “Follow me.”
Logan changed his clothes and trailed after the man in the white robe. There was tons of work that he needed to attend to that he didn't have the time to pick up any calls.
Meanwhile, back at the Hayes mansion, Elena's grandfather had been briefed about how Logan had returned the gifts showered on him by his granddaughter. Thomas Hayes watched the video over and over again, and a soft smile played on his lips. “This is definitely husband material, don't you think?” He asked, staring at one of his assistants who stood by his side.
“Definitely, sir.” She said, nodding her head.
“Get me my phone.” Thomas instructed. He had gotten Logan's number from Elena's assistant. He relaxed in his chair and placed a call through to Logan.
Logan had just finished his diary shift and was about to grab some snacks at the cafeteria when his phone beeped. He was surprised to see a coded number.
Most of the elites and richer men used different and special lines for their calls.
“Hello.” Logan said with respect. “Ah, you are that man who refused to collect that substantial amount of gift.” Thomas said teasingly. “Why don't we meet at the city hall? I would like to have a one-on-one talk with you.”
Logan looked at his watch and agreed to the meeting. He wondered why Thomas Hayes would like to meet up with him and not his daughter.
Logan closed early and immediately found his way towards the city hall. Elena, on the other hand, had been instructed by her grandfather to meet him at the city hall. “What is Grandfather cooking this time?” Elena looked at Eunice, who shrugged her shoulders. “I bet you will find out when you get there.”
“Clear my desk. We leave in ten minutes.” Elena instructed her. Logan got to the city hall and was surprised to see so many young couples getting wedded. He wondered why Thomas Hayes would like to meet here of all places.
He looked up and saw Elena getting out of her sleek car. Both were surprised to see themselves. “Mr. Logan, it is quite a surprise to see you here.” She said, extending her hands for a handshake. “My pleasure. I was supposed to meet with your grandfather.” Logan explained
Elena laughed, “I know what Thomas is trying to do. He is trying to set us up. He admires you a lot, you know. Ever since the video, he has been going on and on about you.”
Logan smiled and looked at her, but the next words coming out of Elena's mouth shocked him. “Do you want to get married?”
Logan's face went wild with a smile. “You just met me? How can you ask me such a question?”
“Because you are the most simple guy I have ever met. I don't want any other man but you.”
“Fine, let's do it.” Logan replied to Elena's surprise. Elena told him he cannot back off halfway, which he agreed to. The two immediately entered the city hall and were out with their wedding certificates in no time. “I guess we are officially a thing now.” Elena said with a smile. “You don't need to feel pressure, Logan. I am doing this to please my father, although there are a few rules and regulations to be followed.”
Logan looked at her and said nothing. He was expecting this much since the marriage was more like a contract than an actual marriage. “Here is the key to the mansion. Since we are married, I think you should have one.” Elena brought out a spare key.
“I don't need it.” Logan said, trying to be manly, but Elena refused. “We are a couple, remember?”
Logan nodded and had the house key collected from her. He immediately removed his golden chain and had the key tagged to it. “I guess we are good.” Elena said softly. “Call me.” She said almost immediately walking away, but Logan pulled her back. “You didn't listen to my own rules.
“What rules?” Elena asked, squeezing her face a little. “You need to have my number and also have mine in case my mother calls.”
“Your mother? You didn't tell me anything about this.” Elena asked, folding her arms. “Okay. Is there anything else?”
“Two, I will give you a monthly allowance of three thousand dollars. Consider that as me giving you some money as your husband.”
Elena gave a smile; she knew Logan was having his pride, but she was ready to listen to his rules. “So what is the third?” Elena acted like she knew Logan was going to come up with another rule. “How good are you in bed?” Logan asked, and Elena’s face went red.
