Unaccepted Apologies.

Asteria's POV Xavier never answered the door. It's been a week since the party, a week since I let my big mouth ruin what could potentially be a good night. A week since I had been baking cakes of different flavors and dropping them at Xavier's door, only to come out and find them untouched. It always broke my heart each time I came the next morning and saw my basket of cupcakes still staring at me, the basket and coverings over them just the way I left them. However what did I expect, I disappointed him and said what I shouldn't have said, considering how I wanted us to be close, I should have watched my words carefully. Over the week I had thought about that night and our conversations on repeat in my head and imagined ways it would have gone differently. I zone out at work Mandy always beating me back to consciousness. It was messing with my sleep and I didn't like it one bit. Each time I pass by his door on my way tho and fro from work, I had every urge to knock but it was as if there was a huge sign saying 'do not knock' figuratively on the walls of his building which always brought me back to my senses. Was it possible to miss someone you hardly knew? "Asteria. Aster. Doll" " What? Mhmm? What is it?" I screeched out to a confused Mandy. How many times did she call me? f**k. " You zoned out again" " Yeah I'm sorry. Didn't sleep well last night" I said rubbing my temples softly. " He didn't accept it did he?" I stopped what I was doing preparing myself to lie, Mandy had stopped asking if he accepted my apologies on day 3, and I also stopped telling her how pathetic I was to keep baking only to come and find it untouched. But I could never lie to Mandy, I always stuttered uncontrollably and Mandy always seemed to catch me. So I simply shook my head letting out a frustrated huff. It was our lunch break now so we were sitting on the far end of the booth of our restaurant. It was were Mandy and I used when we wanted to relax and talk. " Are you still baking?" I shook my head again. I had decided to stop baking since yesterday and I was yet to coincidentally run into Xavier on our Hall way, or in the elevator we shared together. I was also yet to hear the door bell ring. I could not ruin my self esteem enough so I stopped baking. " Hey. I know it's not going to be easy but isn't it better to kill whatever attraction you have towards him now in it's early stage? You weren't even like this when Jude cheated on you" Mandy said rubbing my palm softly like she always did when we were threading on a dangerous subject. Jude was a dangerous subject. " I don't know if I can Mandy bee. I have tried over the week to remove him from my mind but it doesn't seem plausible besides you've seen him Mandy, how could one forget a face as that." I replied refusing to comment on what she said about Jude. Jude and I's relationship ended a long time ago, it didn't exactly hurt when I caught him cheating, it only hurt me that I put up with his beating and foolish ass for longer than I was supposed to. " Yes I have seen him and forgive me doll but he looks like a total jerk. A complete heartbreaker" " Isn't that your type of men?" I teased her smiling softly at her comment. " Yes but not when he is doing this to you" "I'll be fine Mandy I just need to --" the bell of our restaurant rang out signaling that a customer was here. I huffed loudly realizing it was my turn to serve. Mandy had taken all my slots for the morning, helping me as I kept zoning out. I walked begrudgingly to the counter ready to take the order of whoever the customer was. However my eyes widened at the person standing before me. My brows furrowed so wide they were almost touching my hair line. " Hi" said the voice of the man I had been waiting for all week. Xavier. He was stood behind my counter staring at me like he wasn't surprised I was here while my heart kept beating that he was actually here. Any one that saw me would actually think I saw a ghost. My stomach could not help but swirl in excitement. Don't be excited too much Asteria, he hasn't even forgiven you. What are the odds that Xavier was standing before me. This was not the only restaurant in the city, although it was a little closer to our block than other restaurants, but I never for once imagined he would visit this place. A finger moved in my line of sight actually bringing me out of my train of thoughts. " Are you going to do your job or should I leave?" Fuck, he was still angry. " Ye--- yeah, I'm sorry, what can we get you?" I stuttered, swallowing the saliva that had gathered in my mouth at having seen him. He still looked as beautiful as ever and I knew that I would always be blown away by how beautiful he looked. He was in a black leather jacket that expanded his arms bringing out his muscles and a white shirt beneath. I could not glance down at his legs because I was behind the counter and it would be too suspicious. Besides he was way taller than I was. " Black coffee and some doughnuts" his voice sounded different to how I had always had it, or maybe I was hearing things because he was angry at me. " Sure. Please go find a sit and I'll bring your order---" before I finished he was gone. I watched his back like a hawk my heart sinking in my chest because of his attitude towards me. I kind of deserved it though. It was good that he was here, I would apologize properly. I quickly packed his order and put it into a serving tray and made my way to his table. I needed Mandy, but while I went to answer our guest she said she had a call and would smoke before coming back in. I glanced at the back door and she was yet to come in. With my tail between my legs, I walked to his table, swallowing my nerves and trying to put on my work face. His face was buried deep into his phone and even when I dropped it to his table, he didn't spare me a glance or remove his gaze from his phone. I didn't know why but I felt saddened by it. I didn't know how long I stood watching him until a throat was cleared in front of me. I pulled my eyes up to find Xavier's eyes on me, his brows furrowed slightly. " What are you doing standing there?" Has his voice always been this deep? " Sorry?" I asked, he nodded his head towards me standing and I realized what he was talking about. " Oh just wanted to ask if it was what you ordered and if you need anything else" f*****g liar. Yes I know, sue me. " If I needed anything else, I'll come get you, I don't need you watching me like some stray dog" Ouch. Has he always been this rude? Actually yes. I was just too blinded by his beauty to actually notice it. I know I made him angry but that didn't give him the right to speak to me in the manner he just did. As I was about to open my mouth to give him a piece of my mind, his phone rang, he picked it up immediately while I stood there with my mouth hanged open and my body boiling with anger. Another customer came and another and another. I served them all, all the while watching Xavier like a stray dog as he so rudely put it. He had finished his food long ago but was still sat at his table, his head and eyes buried deep into his phone. What was in that phone anyway? Did he have friends? no one ever visited him all these while. I was finally done for the day. I began packing my bags and arranging my stuff before Xavier walked back to the counter. " How much is my bill?" He spoke like a robot, no emotion in sight. " That would be $50" I replied still eyeing him as he brought out his wallet. He placed a hundred dollar bill on the counter and simply strolled off. " Your change" I shouted. " Keep it" he responded back and he was out the door. How could he act so cold one time and kind the next? He was causing me a great headache. I quickly packed up, packaging the $50 extra into my bag and ran after him. He had long legs so it was difficult to catch up with him. Almost close, I shouted at him to wait. He didn't until I got very close to him and dragged his leather jacket by his arms. My legs tripped and I fell on him, his hands quickly went to my waist preventing me from falling over. His fingers connecting with the skin below my crop top, making goosebumps arise on my body and my cheeks flamed. My heart was beating so fast, I hoped he didn't hear it. I muttered a little thank you to him as he brought me to stand. " Can I help you?" He asked when as we faced each other now. His eyes still calculative and mine trying to piece together exactly why I stopped him. " I wanted to thank you for the tip" I said between breaths. " Is that why you ran all the way here? To thank me for tips?" He asked his eyes narrowed as he watched me. " Yeah" I replied, still panting. " Why didn't you just do it at home?" " You wouldn't open your door to me" I said with a frown. " True. Then you should have waited till I came back again" he said shrugging his shoulders as he began walking. I followed after him. " You would have come back?" I asked surprised lacing my tone. " Mhmm, it's closer and they sell good coffee" he simply stated. " So you like my coffee?" I asked, a smile spreading across my lips. " If it's you that made it them no, I don't like your coffee" " Ptftt, that's just low even for you" I muttered laughing quietly. There was a bit of silence between us as we simply walked side by side. " I thought you worked at a bakery" Xavier said, breaking into the silence. " Because of my cakes?" I asked smiling that he actually thought about me even if it was for something as simple as that. He didn't answer simply stared at me, waiting for my response. " I've always wanted to, but I'm not experienced enough" I replied, sadness overwhelming me. " Is that another foolish thing you think?" "What?" I asked staring at him with a scowl on my face. " You tend to think foolishly Asteria. Not a good trait for a goddess don't you think?" I could not even find it in me to be angry at his insult. Did he just call me a goddess?.
