For as frightened as she was being thrown into an underground cellar by a bunch of pissed off vampires, Serena knew her situation could be far, far worse. They’d locked her up with a vamp who was as law-abiding as they got. She wasn’t even their primary concern; they just thought of her as collateral damage as they tried to set this Max Markow up for a legal staking. Being used as bait didn’t rate high on her plans, but considering she’d sauntered into the bar in the first place knowing that might be how far she’d have to go to get to the bracelet, she wasn’t in any boat to be making hypocritical complaints. Besides, for all his charm and aw-shucks smiles, Max seemed bound and determined to stick to doing the right thing. Serena sincerely hoped he was as stubborn about getting out of here
