Chapter 54

774 Words
It had been five days since Sion had appeared before them. Five days of panic for Wing because he realised he would likely not leave this situation alive. However, as he sat in the lounge room, with Cairo in the kitchen making them breakfast, he couldn’t help but stare at the man. The way he moved so quickly from cabinet to cabinet as he grabbed the seasonings, he broke the eggs and whisked them into the bowl. The way the sun was hitting him from the kitchen window, his dark skin seemed to glow, and his black hair seemed soft. He looked up to see Wing staring, and his amber eyes stared at him too, before he smiled, the corner of his lips turning slightly before he went back to cooking. Wing found it hard to tear his eyes away from Cairo, but when he managed to do so, he turned his gaze back to his computer as he stared at a picture of the planet J1407b. This wasn’t part of his uni work; just before he had been taken, he had stumbled upon this planet and found it most fascinating. The massive rings entrapped the planet. Or how, due to it being so young, the rings would soon coalesce into moons as they grow. But the main thing on his mind was how he most likely had feelings for Cairo, and it was also the stupidest thing he could have done. He turned to look at Cairo, flipped the omelettes in the pan, and had the overwhelming urge to kiss him. He couldn’t do it, but he wanted to. How the f**k would he even explain this to Thorne, who had just walked in. “If you’re making breakfast, make me some,” he deadpanned as he slumped onto the couch beside Wing. Throne turned to look at Wing with a scowl on his face. “What’s wrong with you?” “Nothing’s wrong with me.” Thorne looked as if he didn’t believe him, but he didn’t question it as his eyes landed on his computer to where the planet had been pulled up. “It’s J1407b; you had just found that, right?” “Yeah, I’ve just finished the first year’s work, so I was taking a break now. I can cry about next year when the year starts.” “Smart. I’m glad you managed to catch up; see, I told you, you would. You were worrying over nothing.” “It wasn’t nothing.” Cairo brought over three plates, with Thorne having the biggest portion; Wing didn’t say anything as his best friend really needed to eat. Cairo also brought three glasses of blood and set them on the table as he slumped beside Wing. How could he forget Thorne was his best friend and Cairo was his father? Oh, what the f**k? He had feelings for his best friend’s dad. He had never imagined that, but then again, Thorne had always said that his father was dead, and he didn't lie. But still. Neither man could know. It was, as Thorne said, he had imprinted on Cairo, and that was all it was. Wing would move on from Cairo and find someone nice to settle down with once this was over. Hell, he may even die, so there was no need to worry about a future he might not even have. This would be fine; everything would be fine. They ate breakfast in silence, and as soon as he was done, Thorne stood up and left the apartment after saying his goodbyes to Wing and ignoring Cairo. Once he had gone, Cairo sighed, and Wing smiled up at him, patting his arm. “You need to give him time, Cairo. He’ll come around.” “It’s been three months, and he still won’t even have a conversation with me.” “Well, you did abandon him for more than a decade. He needs time; you both do. You’ll get there, eventually.” “I did it for him. To keep him safe.” “I know,” Wing whispered as he opened his notebook to stare at his list. He added one more, ‘help Cairo and Thorne’, before closing it. “Come on, finish your breakfast and drink your blood; we can have a lazy day. We’ll watch something,” Wing said, looking up at the man. “Fine. I’m making bloody marys, though.” “I said a lazy day, not drink away your feelings.” “Sure, okay.” Wing couldn’t help the smile on his face as he began clearing away the dishes. ~*~
