Chapter 18

In the bar, Blye and Warren were now closing up, and Wing realised just how long they had spent cooped up in that room. Blue smiled at them both as they locked the door. “Hello loves, what’s wrong?” “Nothing,” Cairo replied. “If you’re going to help, I’d be wary of Slaine, Blue. I don’t know what you were talking about, but whatever it was, has him on edge.” “Yes, who are they?” Wing whispered, looking up at Blue. They were so pretty, with delicate features, big blue eyes, and long blonde hair on their shoulders. Blue smiled at him, their eyes closing. “Don’t worry, Wing. This won’t harm you, I just need more clarification. Cairo, I need to speak to you, alone.” Cairo frowned a little but nodded as he let go of Wing’s hand, he awkwardly waited as Blue unlocked the door, and Cairo followed them outside. Warren grumbled something but walked into the back room. “I need you to do something for me,” Blue said. Wing frowned, he wanted to interrupt them to tell them he could hear them, but that would be rude, but he didn’t want it to look like he was eavesdropping, so he focused on the picture of Melissa, trying to zone them out, but he couldn’t. “What?” “I need you to look into Chaos’ Blessing for me.” Cairo spluttered a little. “Don’t tell me,” he whispered. “Yes. And I know you Rex Superno has his own library full of books, there has to be some books in there about this.” “Blue,” he said, exasperated. “You’re kidding me.” “I am not. I need to know everything there is about this. From the one book I have, it’s not a good thing,” they said. “Only one other person has had it; apparently, he’s dead.” “I can’t just sneak into Rex’s library, that’s a death wish.” “You’re his first in command, figure something out, or we all die,” they deadpanned before returning inside. They smiled at Wing before going into the backroom. Cairo looked confused but stopped before Wing, looking down at him. He sighed. “I know you picked up on something, Wing. What was it?” Wing’s grip on the picture tightened. “It might be nothing,” he whispered. “But it might not, remember you’re new to this, you might think its nothing, but it might be something huge.” Wing nodded slowly. “Melissa, she has this small blue dot behind her ear. It might have been an error, on the camera, or maybe a speck of dust. I didn’t want to get anyones hopes up.” Cairo frowned. “A small blue dot?” He nodded. Cairo leaned in as he brought the picture and showed it to him. Wing frowned at the lack of warmth but said nothing. “Look, here.” He pointed to the dot with his finger, and Cairo cursed. He grabbed the image, rushing off into the room. Wing followed, confused. “I need you to look through all the victims, look for a blue dot behind the ear. It’s small, one millimetre in diameter, but check for everyone who has that.” After half an hour of searching, there was a large pile of thin black folders off to one side, all these people had the tiny blue dot, and Cairo panicked. “What’s with the blue dot, Cairo?” Jem asked, frowning. “What aren’t you telling us?” “That blue dot is a species essence. They’re stealing the essences of hundreds of peoples.” ~*~
