Chapter 21

Rosalyn eyed him warily before she sighed and made herself comfortable on the couch. “No, they don’t have mates like alphas and omegas do. Alphas and omegas were designed for one another, but there needed balance, so betas were created. Beta’s have more freewill than anyone else, in a way. But who am I do question free will, right?” “So, interspecies marriage. Is it common?” he asked, looking up at her. He brought his knees to his chest, resting his arms on top and placing his head on them. “Well, it depends on the species, I guess? For some it’s the norm, for others its enough reason to kill them.” “But wolves? It’s common for you, right?” “I mean, not really. My family is just amazing, I guess. Grandad can’t say anything otherwise he would be a hypocrite, my brothers are surprised anyone actually fell in love with me and my dad just wants me to be happy. And Liz makes me happy.” “So, there’s no chance? Even if I was a vampire?” “Summer, I think we need to talk,” Rosalyn said. “You’ve been asking Liz and Slaine and even though they keep saying no, you keep asking. You have been for years, and Autumn is getting worried, we all are.” “Then turn me and I’ll stop asking.” “No.” “Then I’ll go talk to Slaine.” “He’ll say no too,” Elizabeth replied. “I’ll annoy him.” Summer turned on his heel and left the back room. He scowled when he saw Cairo sitting at a table, who waved when he saw him. Wing was also frowning at him as he took down his order. Jem blinked and looked like he would say something, but Summer left before he could. Even if Autumn wasn’t in love with him, he still wanted to be beside him. He didn’t want to grow old. Not when he saw everyone around him look the same as five years ago. Sure, all the kids were growing, but Neo said they would stop soon. He wanted to be with Autumn for as long as he could. And if that meant attending his wedding and playing uncle with his children, he would. But he wanted to be by his side. “Hey, wait up!” Summer stopped as he glared, turning around to see a gorgeous woman with long black hair in a black suit and blood-red lips, her pale skin glimmered in the sun, and Summer realised she was wearing makeup. She was gorgeous and curvy, and her eyes were dark brown. “Go away. I’m busy.” She stopped before him, and he ignored how she was taller than him. “I overheard you in The Seasons, my love. I know you want to be a vampire and your friend won’t turn you. I can help you with that.” His eyebrows shot up. “You’re a vampire?” She let out a small laugh. “No, no. I’m a siren. But I am friends with a vampire. And she’ll have no problem turning you, for a price of course.” “What’s the price?” She placed her finger over her lips, her black nail pointy as she smiled. She reached into her pocket, and Summer tensed. She pulled out a white card and handed it over to him. Summer took it from her, eyeing it. It was a blank white card with nothing but a phone number written in black font. “When you’re ready, call this number.” Before Summer could say anything else, she had disappeared. He stared at the card and then at the bin a couple of feet away before he sighed and slipped it into his pocket. He walked into Slaine’s apartment building, smiling at the woman sitting at the reception table before he walked over to the elevators and pressed the button. A few minutes later, he was knocking on Slaine’s door. He heard the vampire grumble something as he opened it with a scowl on his face. “What do you want?” “Let me in.” “No. What do you want?” Summer stared at him blankly before Slaine cursed and stepped aside to let him in. Summer walked in, always surprised to see the significant dent in the wall-to-ceiling windows in the wall, with a large tv station set up in front. He turned around to see Slaine glaring at his reflection in the mirror. “Slaine, I want you to turn me.” Slaine slowly turned his head to stare at Summer before he burst out laughing. “I know you don’t find that funny. You don’t have your emotions on.” “I have humour on.” “You can’t pick and choose.” “Don’t be ridiculous, Slaine. Go home.” “No. I want you to turn me.” “I said no. Do not make me repeat myself one more time.” “Why not? You turned Wing! How is that fair?” “Wing was an accident. You, I will not turn.” “Why not?” Summer blinked, and Slaine stood in front of him, so close that their chests were touching. Summer stared at his eerie purple eyes. “You cannot stand the sight of blood, Summer. I have seen how you look at us when we drink. How will you be able to live if you can’t drink blood.” Summer tensed. “You’re right. I don’t like blood. But I will manage.” “Get out before I kick you out. Go cry to Winter. He’s been acting odd, and Jasper won’t shut up about it.” “I’m not leaving until you bite me.” “I will bite your f*****g neck off if you don’t get the f**k out of my house, Summer. You have three seconds.” Summer stared at him as Slaine began to count down. He didn’t let him get to one as he stormed out. Summer wiped the tears away, annoyed that he was even crying. Why wouldn’t they just turn him? Slaine had turned Wing on accident and had been asking for years. He stuffed his hands into his pyjama pockets when his hand touched the white card. As he stepped out of the building, he looked around. The majority of these people were human. And they all went home, and they weren’t the wiser that an entire realm was hiding in plain sight. But he was aware. And it wasn’t fair. All he wanted was to live by Autumn’s side for as long as possible. So, he pulled his phone out and dialled the number on the plain white card with the number written in black. He heard the phone ring and then the woman’s voice. “I want you to turn me. Tell me what I have to do.” ~*~
