Chapter 60

Xana’s green eyes seemed to darken as she walked over, a frown on her face, Her body still glimmered with glitter, as it had done when they first met, and while he had been having memory issues before that, they were small, hours at a time. But since that room, they had turned into days, and this time a week. A week where he had no control, no memory of anything. “What did you do to me?” he snapped. She smiled. “Whatever do you mean?” “You did something; I know you did; you’re behind my memory gaps.” “Oh, and you just figured this out? I knew humans were inferior, but I didn’t think it would take you almost a month to figure out it was me; wow. I can see why we deserve to be on top.” “I want out,” he said instead, looking up at her with a scowl. “Summer, Summer, Summer,” she said, sighing wistfully as she sat on the bed with much more grace than he could ever muster. She looked up at him, and with the candlelit lighting, she did look ethereal, and her green eyes appeared so bright, despite the lack of light. “You should know that the only way out is death by now.” He tensed as he took a few steps back so he had his back to the door, refusing to take his eyes off the predator in front of him. Because it was then, he realised she was the predator, and he could have easily been the prey. “I didn’t want any of this to happen,” he snapped. “I don’t want to cause the end of the world. I just want to spend my life with Autumn.” “And you will. You are.” “Not like this. Look at what you did to me. I want it all to stop. I want whatever you’ve done to stop.” “Oh, Summer,” she said, leaning back on her hands, revealing some of the scales on the sides of her torso, various green shades, with gold flecks splattered here and there; he knew gold scales had a meaning, he had been meaning to ask Kevin, but always seemed to forget. “You should know; you are way in over your head. The time is coming. Just two more prophecies to complete, the creator's control, and Death will drown. You can spend your remaining time with Autumn. And, then, you can both die together? Isn’t that romantic?” “No. That wasn’t the deal. I wanted to stay with Autumn to always be beside him.” “And you will, won’t you? Right up until the moment you die, you will be beside Autumn. Of course, your death coming earlier than you had imagined would be unjust; I’ve heard humans always have something to say about them. If it’s any consolation, Death isn’t very fond of you either; he says you’re something like an ant.” Summer stared at Xana as something similar to a smile danced across her face, her eyes snapped over to him, and they shone. “Tell me something, Summer. Has Cairo defected?” ~*~
