Chapter 4 – The Grandfather Paradox Resolved

Doctor Sofia : "You're right. I shouldn't have kept this part out of my previous explanation of what all of you are about to experience. My research team and I have done countless experiments on the velocity at which a soul can travel. There were no circumstances in which a soul could travel faster than at the speed of light. By accident, though, we found out that some individuals who use the teleporters were traveling slower by a fraction of milliseconds, compared to the rest. We made a hypothesis, that these individuals have more than one soul each, thus, weighing down the speed at which their souls travel. True enough, when we conducted experiments to verify this…" Haasim : "Experiments? Holy s**t! Did you dissect them?" Doctor Sofia : "No, of course not. We approached them and got their consent. We told them that we were going to create more than 1 duplicate body in different locations during the teleportation process. Under normal circumstances, an individual would just teleport to the nearest location while the other duplicated body would not even come to life, since there would be no soul for it to be attached to. However, with these individuals, both of their bodies survived. The hypothesis of them having two souls was, thus, confirmed." Julianna : "They were cloned?" Doctor Sofia : "Well…. Not exactly…. They only had two souls each before the experiment. When those two souls are now in two separate bodies, they cannot be duplicated further. However, from there, a new hypothesis was made. Since the initial two souls were one entity, the velocity of them splitting into opposite directions becomes collective. This is the reason why all of you are here. When you used teleporters in the past, we picked up on the data that all of you are traveling even slower than the individuals with whom we previously conducted experiments." John : "Does that mean we have more than 2 souls?" Doctor Sofia : "Yes, Father John. If our calculations are correct, all of you each have 3 souls. If we split them with precise calculations, we should be able to exceed the speed of light and travel back in time." Haasim : "How do we get back to our present time?" Doctor Sofia : "That's the easy part. Cryogenesis. The difficult part is, when we split 3 souls, we can, theoretically speaking, triangulate the location precisely as to where we want to travel back in time, but one of the 3 souls will remain in the present. Like an anchor." Skylah : "Hmmm….." Andreia : "What was that?" Skylah : "Nothing. I mean, nothing related to the experiment." Andreia : "Just spit it out." Skylah : "Well… One of the reasons why many scientists believe that time travel is not possible is because of the Grandfather Paradox." Julianna : "Oh, I know this one. It's a paradox that poses the question of whether it is possible to travel back in time and kill your grandfather before you were born. If your grandfather dies, you will cease to exist. If you never existed, then paradoxically, your grandfather wouldn't have been killed by you." Skylah : "Yes, except that in Doctor's Sofia current hypothesis, the paradox would be solved. The two souls that travel back in time will no longer be attached to 'time' itself, as they become new existences outside of the original timeline. Meanwhile, killing the analogical grandfather would only erase the third soul that acts as the anchor." Doctor Sofia : "I... I've never thought about that. But, oddly, that somehow lends more credence to my hypothesis. So... Do any of you wish to step back, now that you understand the nature of this experiment?" Except for Father John looking down on the floor, presumably doing a small prayer, everyone else seemed to be looking around for validation. Doctor Sofia : "Well… Shall we?" Haasim : "Let's go!!!" Andreia : "Finally!" The group finally steps into their respective teleportation devices as Doctor Sofia keys in the formula accordingly.
