Chapter 6 – The Heart is the Residence of the Soul

713 Words
John pushes the laboratory door open and, on the other side of it, tall green grass, trees, and sandy rocks are aplenty. Skylah : "Where exactly are we?" Julianna : "Germany, 1516. The laboratory is well hidden in the middle of the jungle for safety reasons." As Skylah, John, and Julianna walk past the laboratory's entrance, the door closes behind and blends into a huge rock, rendering it undetectable. Skylah : "Alright, and where are we heading now?" John : "Let's go to a tavern. I'll get you some good old German beer. It's a long story before I even get to explain why we are here in Germany in 1516." Skylah : "I guess a little walking is good for me. I must have been inside the cryogenic device for a long time." John : "We won't be doing a lot of walking though. Julianna will teleport us." Skylah : "Woah! Is this your power? You can teleport?" Julianna : "Well, to be precise, I could influence 'mass'. I didn't fully understand the late Doctor Sofia's explanation of what I could do with my powers, but from what little I know, the greater the mass of an object, the greater its gravitational force; and the smaller the object is, the greater it is at distorting space-time. In other words, I could use my powers to appear really small while increasing my mass to a level where I could bend space enough to travel anywhere I wanted. Hmm… maybe if I had a piece of paper and a pencil I could explain this better." Skylah : "Please don't….." Julianna : "What? Why?" Skylah : "That's LITERALLY how every single sci-fi movie explains it. They fold a piece of paper and poke a pencil through it. So, I get it." Julianna : "What?" Skylah : "Never mind. Anyway, can you influence not just your mass but mine too? Can we travel together?" Julianna : "Yes. All of our powers are transitive in nature. This includes Father John, who could not only heal himself, but you too if you ever get injured." Skylah : "Transitive in nature….. what happens if I get fatally wounded?" John : "What I truly do when I "heal", is to force and accelerate the division of cells in the body. However, this only works, of course, if the person is still alive." Skylah : "Or as long as the Hayflick Limit isn't reached?" Julianna : "The hay what now?" John : "Hayflick Limit. Basically, human beings have a limit as to how many times the cells in their bodies can divide. That's why we age and eventually die. Technically, with Doctor Sofia's technology, the length of our Telomere can be restored too, but that's beside the point." Julianna : "Telomere?" Skylah : "It is sort of like a lifeline that we have in our bodies. The more we heal from wounds, the more we deplete them." Julianna : "Father John knows this because he was a doctor, and you...….." Skylah : "Comic books, of course." Julianna : "...….." John : "Anyway, back to your question. After obtaining these powers, I understand one thing. The soul resides in the heart. I can force the division of cells even if it is a fatal wound, but there's no coming back if a person's heart is eradicated." Skylah : "The soul resides in the heart....I see….. This would explain why there are many reported cases of patients with heart transplants who inherit the personalities and memories of the heart donor." John : "Indeed. This would explain all those mysterious circumstances in medical history. And also perhaps why the Bible says "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart."" Skylah : "Well....at least I now know why you would rather have me calm down in a tavern with a pint of beer or two before you unload such overwhelming information on me." Julianna extends her hand to both John and Skylah. Julianna : "I'm ready whenever you are." As soon as Skylah nods, Julianna shrinks them to a size smaller than a grain of rice. A small distortion becomes visible around the trio and they warp their way immediately onto an empty ground just outside a village with an entrance sign that says "Anfang".
