The office in China had become my safe place over the past weeks. I arrived early every in the morning before most people and stayed late until the cleaning staff started turning off the lights. The work was demanding, but I welcomed it. Long reports, tight deadlines, and complicated strategy meetings kept my mind occupied for hours at a time. I buried myself in numbers and plans so deeply that sometimes I forgot to eat lunch. My team noticed how hard I worked and began to respect me more each day. My boss praised my focus and said I was one of the most dedicated people he had ever managed. Those words should have made me feel proud, but they only reminded me that I was trying to run away from everything I had left behind. I told myself this was the new me, free from the pain
