Chapter 2

The morning sun streamed through my bedroom window as I grabbed my backpack, giving my mom a quick kiss on the cheek. "See you later, Mom," I said, heading for the door. "Have a great day, Bella! And remember, dinner tonight is your favorite!" she called after me. High school awaited, but first, a familiar routine. I walked next door to Damien's house. The door swung open, revealing Lily, Damien's little sister. With an excited squeal, she ran and hugged me. "Bella! Play with me, play with me!" Lily's enthusiasm was infectious, and soon we were immersed in a game, laughter filling the hallway. Eventually, we made our way to the breakfast table. Damien's mom, Sarah, greeted me with a warm smile. "Good morning, Bella. Sit down, breakfast is ready." I settled into my usual seat, my favorite food awaiting me. "Thanks, Mama S!" I grinned. "Papa J" — as I affectionately called Damien's father, Jack — entered the room, planting a gentle kiss on my forehead. "Good morning, Bella, Lily," he greeted, then turned to his wife. "How's my loves doing?" "Mama S made your favorite pancakes, Bella," Lily chimed in, excitement in her voice. As we shared breakfast, the Weston family table buzzed with warmth. It was a daily ritual, a routine that felt like a second home. The door swung open, and in walked Damien, looking effortlessly handsome as always. He strolled over, playfully smacking the back of my head. I shot him a glare, but he just grinned in response. "Bella, Damien! Play nice," scolded Mom, giving Damien a disapproving look. Damien rolled his eyes, "Yeah, yeah, sorry, Mom." He bent down to Lily's level, planting a kiss on her cheek. "Hey, munchkin, ready for school?" Lily beamed, nodding enthusiastically. "Yes! And you'll come to pick me up, right?" "Sorry, sweetie. I can't make it today. Got a class," Damien explained, ruffling her hair. We all gathered around the breakfast table, the usual banter filling the air. Damien and I engaged in a cute, funny argument about who ate the last pancake, with Mom and Dad playing along. Laughter echoed through the kitchen, setting the tone for the day. Finally, Damien and I headed out to his car, chauffeured by the family driver. As we drove to school, our playful banter continued. "You know, you're lucky I let you sit in the front seat," Damien teased. I rolled my eyes. "Please, like you have a choice. It's my spot." He chuckled. "Only because Mom insists. You've got her wrapped around your finger." I grinned. "Well, what can I say? I'm just that charming." At school, Damien and I stumbled upon a quirky talent show sign-up sheet, and with a mischievous glint in his eyes, he suggested we enter as a duo. Despite my initial hesitation, I agreed, and soon enough, we found ourselves practicing an impromptu skit. As we took the stage during the talent show, the spotlight intensified the shared nerves and excitement. We delivered a surprise comedic routine that had the audience in stitches. The laughter was infectious, and for a moment, the auditorium felt like our private comedy club. Exiting the stage to applause, Damien grinned at me, a shared sense of accomplishment in our eyes. "Well, that was unexpected," I remarked, still catching my breath. "Who knew we had such hidden talents?" he teased, nudging me gently. "Yeah, and here I thought our talents peaked at arguing over the last pancake," I replied, nudging him back, the playful banter continuing. The day unfolded with a lighthearted glow, a refreshing break from the usual routine. Damien, ever the instigator, leaned in, "So, what's next on our surprise adventure?" I chuckled, "Surprise adventures seem to find us. Let's just roll with it." As we navigated the crowded hallways, the air buzzed with an afterglow of our impromptu performance. Our laughter echoed in the corridors, adding a unique layer to our friendship. It was one of those days where the ordinary became extraordinary, and I couldn't help but feel grateful for the unpredictability of life with Damien by my side. The school day was chugging along when this shy new guy approached with a hesitant smile, "Hey, um, sorry to bother you. I heard you have really good notes for this class. Mind if I take a look?" I grinned, "No worries! Yeah, I've got them. High school can be a maze, right? What's your name?" "I'm Alex. Just transferred here," he replied, relief evident in his eyes. "Nice to meet you, Alex! I'm Bella. Don't worry; I've got you covered with those notes. This place can be a bit overwhelming at first," I reassured him, handing over the notes. As we chatted, the tension lifted, and we shared a few laughs about the quirks of the school. "What's going on here?" Damien's voice sliced through the friendly banter, and his eyes locked onto Alex with this intense glare. "This is Alex. He's new, needed some notes," I explained, attempting to ease the growing tension. Damien's gaze shifted from Alex to me, and before I knew it, he grabbed my arm, giving it a pull. The abruptness killed the laughter and easy vibe, leaving this awkward silence hanging in the air. "Damien, what's the big deal? He was just asking for notes," I protested, my voice carrying the confusion of the situation. His jaw tightened, eyes showing a mix of anger and possessiveness. "I don't want you talking to random guys, Bella," he muttered, dragging me away from the school.
