Chapter 31 - Everything explained

Derek POV

“Yes, and Alexandria, I don’t know how it works or which one of you it will affect, maybe even the both of you” Adam says.

“And what the hell does that mean? Affect them in what way?” I ask. I can’t lose her; Death will not come for her.

“All I know is that three will fall. foe, friend and family, of whom, I don’t know” Adam says.

“No, just no, why should we be punished for something the goddess chose to do to us, that’s bullshit” Alexandria says, standing up.

“I agree but that’s what’s written, I wish there was something I could do, believe me, I know you’ve been through enough heartache” Adam says with sorrowful eyes. The man seems to have emotions only when he is talking to his daughter.

“But Leila, didn’t accept the bond, will that matter?” I ask. Maybe there is still hope to stop whatever this is.

“I don’t know but it might” Adam with his cold attitude again.

“Well, I have a foe in mind that will definitely fall, I actually have two” I say.

“But which family and friend am I going to lose?” Alexandria trails off.

There is a knock on the door and in comes Dylan and Sophia.

“Can I have my friend back now?” Sophia says.

“Yes cuz we missed her too” Dylan says.

I can actually see the color drain from Alexandria’s face as I can almost hear my own heart beating faster.

No, please, no.

Eric POV

“I Natalia Johnson reject you” what the f**k? Before she says another word, I cover her mouth with my hand, pinning her to the wall.

She can’t reject me. Why reject me? Because her alpha told her so?

Before I could think of a reason, I feel the sharp edge of a dagger across my throat and can actually smell my skin burning from the silver. It all happened in seconds.

“Get off of her before I slit your f*****g throat” the hunter threatens.

I can see from the corner of my eyes Kyle trying to come to my aid, but before he takes a step closer there is a dagger pointed at his throat as well.

“Don’t you dare take another step, Wolf” the hunter tells Kyle.

I know I f****d up, royally, that was the wrong reaction, but I couldn’t let her end the bond.

I immediately remove my hand off her mouth and step away, but not because of the hunter who was definitely going to kill me, it’s because of the pure panic on my mate’s face and how hard her heart is beating. She really is scared of me and I just made it worse.

“I didn’t mean to hurt her; I just wanted to stop her” I try to explain my actions.

Natalia drops to the floor breathing fast, repeating few words; she is having a panic attack,

“I’m sorry, I swear I didn’t talk to him, please don’t” Natalia keeps repeating, what have I done? More importantly, what had been done to her?

“What’s going on with her?” I ask worried.

“Natalia, hey, breath, it’s okay, you are safe” Max says, kneeling in-front of her, but the moment that he touches her, that’s when everything gets even worse.

“No,No,No” Natalia screams, backing to a corner, shaking and closing her eye shut like she is seeing a ghost.

Max rushes to the door and bangs on it until one of the guards opens it.

“GET YOUR ALPHA, NOW” he yells.

“Natalia, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to hurt you, I would never hurt you, please” I plead, kneeling in front of her. Maybe my voice will calm her.

“Get the f**k away from her” Max warns me and I ignore him.

“Let him, he is actually calming her down” Kyle says.

“Natalia, I would never do anything to harm you, I just didn’t want to lose you” I tell her and her breathing clams down a little.

I reach for her, slowly and carefully, but before I touch her I'm being slammed to the wall.

“What the f**k did you do to her” Derek snarls, why does he always show up out of nowhere?

“Derek” Max calls to him, and points to Natalia. She is now standing in the corner, her posture is different, her back is straight, her shoulders squared and her eyes are black as night.

Derek dismisses the guards that entered the cell with all the commotion and Max closes the door behind them.

“Lola”.

“Alpha”.

“What happened?”.

“She was remembering, I had to take over”.

“And what triggered it?”.

“He was pinning her to the wall” Max so helpfully explains d**k.

“WHAT” Derek growls.

“I was trying to stop her from rejecting me, probably because you told her to” I say pointing a finger at him.

“I would never do such a thing” he says insulted and probably thinking of breaking the finger, I just pointed in his face.

“ Why would she do that then? She knew who I was. As a wolf at least, we were even looking for each other and she had no problem with me… except… when I tried to mark her… she clawed me” I say realizing what happened, why she did it.

“Why would she claw you if she was okay with you marking her?” Derek asks with suspicion.

“I asked for permission… I think” I say with hesitation, everything seems different now that I know that she must have a painful history.

“What do you mean by you think?” Max almost snarls.

“I mean we were in wolf form… I asked for permission as clear as a wolf could ask, I grazed the spot with my fangs and waited for her to move away as a no, or not move as a yes, and she didn’t move”,

“And that’s you asking for permission? She probably froze with fear, you stupid f**k” Max practically screams in my face.

Derek charges for me, grabbing my shirt and slamming me to the wall again.

“If it isn’t a clear yes, then it’s a no, mother fucker, it’s called consent, look it up” Derek growls with his eyes obsidian, he is right, he is just right.

“I know, I didn’t think it through, and the moment she resisted I stepped away from her, I swear, I would never intentionally hurt her” I say while Derek tries to take deep breathes to calm himself down.

“The hunter said it, he is stupid with no idea of what his mate went through, and in wolf form, things can be confusing” Kyle trying to defend me and I can’t argue with that, I was… a moron.

“That’s why she was rejecting him, she was scared”. Of course, it all makes sense now. I should have waited, I should have done it differently, I was just caught up in the moment, and that's not an excuse.

Derek seems to take Kyle’s words and mine in consideration as he lets go of me.

“What happened to her?” I ask Derek.

“Not my story to tell” he answers coldly.

“Who did it to her?” I ask again.

“Still not my story to tell”,

“Can you at least tell her to give me a chance to explain? And if she still wants to reject me, I won’t stop her… please” I plead.

“I’ll try, but if she doesn’t want to talk to you, you don’t come near her again or I’ll rip your heart out, are we clear?” Derek stating his condition.

“Yes” I agree.

“Okay, but I don’t think now is the right time for that talk, later” Derek says and I agree with a nod. yes, now is definitely not the time.

“Max, Lola, let’s go” Derek commands.

“We are not bringing Natalia back?” Max inquires.

“In privacy, not when we have an audience” Derek gesturing to the guards outside.

And with that, they leave, but not before Lola gives me a lingering look.

I barely control myself from running to her and taking her in my arms, comforting her, promising that I will never hurt her again, that whoever did hurt her will meet a painful Death on my hands, that I will live the rest of my life only to make her feel happy and safe… If she can just give me a chance.

William POV

“What the hell do you mean you didn’t get her?” I growl at the incompetent one in front of me.

“When we arrived to collect her, she was gone and the humans were all dead, your majesty, and we have word that she is back in her pack” the whimpering coward says.

“I guess we under estimated him” charlotte says, is that a smile on her face?

“What about the beta girl?” I ask.

“We believe she is dead, the witch said her connection to the spell was severed and her life line vanished”, a failure. They are all failures.

“LEAVE” I roar.

“ If the other alphas got word of this” Charlotte starts with the political s**t.

“They won’t, that’s why we hired the humans and used the witch and the other girl, so it won’t be tracked back to us” I shut her up.

“Now, what to do?” She asks.

“You know what we have to do, charlotte” I give her a pointed look.

“William, maybe there is another way” she tries again with her suggestions.

“Yes there is, I have to kill them myself and it will be as legal and politically correct as it can be” I say, already mind linking my beta and setting everything in motion, ignoring my mate's objections and useless alternative plans.

This was the only solution all along, and I gave them their chance for my mate's sake. Now it’s time to take action, now is the time for them to die.
