Chapter 4 - The Enemy

Derek POV

“You see Alison, your mother thinks we are the alpha and hunter from the premonition, she thinks I’m going to kill my own brother… so she wants to kill me” Alexandria says.

“Alexandria would never do something like that” Alison finally defending the right person.

“Wouldn’t she? She is a hunter, it’s what they do” the king says pointing at Alexandria.

“she is not a f*****g sub” I say and I see a subtle smile form on Ria’s lips, what a difference between this conversation and the one we had the first time she said she was a hunter, when Rex almost choked her to death.

“When we. When we almost her to death” Rex my wolf says to me.

“It was all you asshole and you know it” and to that he just growls knowing damn well what he did.

“Watch the way you talk to-” the queen again with her useless warnings.

“I think we are way past formalities now, don’t you think” Ria cut’s her mother off,

“You know I could just kill both of you right now” The king snarls glaring mainly at Alexandria as he continue

“I’m the alpha ki-”,

“And I’m the alpha slayer” I cut him off, standing my grounds, I’ll be damned if I let anyone threaten My Ria, even if it was the king himself, f**k consequences.

“Is that a challenge alpha Derek” the king growls.

“No, it’s not, William please” The queen says standing between us and I say nothing.

“Do you expect me to let such disrespect slide?” the king says surprised with his mate’s reaction, I guess she still have some motherly instinct left in her.

“He is just defending his mate” the queen reasons.

“Even if he was challenging you, there are rules to be followed and announcements to be made, you can’t just claim that he challenged you and launch at them” Alison surprisingly says in our defense, I think she is starting to see things in a different light now.

“Okay, let’s all cut the bullshit, you can’t just kill us and that was the reason behind that sham of a summoning , you might be the alpha king but there still rules even you have to follow” Alexandria states.

“I’m the alpha king, I’m the strongest wolf and the ultimate leader of wolves, I can do as I please” the king says with a cocky smirk.

“We might be animals but we are also humans so politics plays a big part when it comes to this, yes, you are the strongest wolf but I’m a very powerful one myself…you have your position and power and I have my family and allies who will follow me without question and not out of obligation” I say and he gets the subtle hint about the extent of his men’s loyalties.

“And let’s not forget whose Alexandria’s father really is, the man didn’t think twice about annihilating a whole pack in a couple of hours because he mistakenly thought they kidnapped his daughter, think what he will do if you of all people threaten her life” I can feel Alexandria stiffens beside me, I know even the mentioning of that attack is hard on her but I have to play my cards right in order to protect her, she is all that matters, the king can kill me for all I care.

The king clenches his jaws, all cards are on the table, He didn’t know who Alexandria really is when he summoned us here nor the fact that I didn’t even flinch when the all-powerful king threatened me, he severely underestimated us and now that he knows it we have to be even more vigilant.

“You may go now, but this is not over… not by a long shot” the king says through gritted teeth, he lost this battle but there is still a war coming.

I nod and grab Alexandria’s hand and head out, before we reach the door, she stops and turns to face her mother

“I would never hurt my own brother, even if I never met him, I would never hurt him… if you stuck around long enough to know me, you would know that I would never do such a thing” and with that she turns around and we leave.

Natalia POV



“So… how the f**k did we end up with baby duty?” Max says trying to hold, more like juggle two of the babies, I think Alexandria and Alexis or is it Alexiana and Alexandria, or maybe Alexis and Alexiana… I don’t freaking know with all the Alexes, I only know that I’m holding Alexander, because he is the only one in blue, and not one of the three girls.

“I know how we got stuck with this, because you opened your big cocky full of himself mouth and claimed there is nothing you can’t do, and Alexandria being the good friend that she is, challenged you into this while the Gammas are out doing whatever, which you so foolishly accepted dragging me with you in it” I say putting Alexander and… Alexiana?, maybe we should write a number on the back of each of their heads so we could know who is who, I mean they are not identical but all babies look the same, right?

Any way I put the babies down and go help Max, he and I became fast friends, maybe because we understood each other’s pain, I know we will never have what he and Alexandria have and I’m fine with it as long as we stay friends, he is a good man and I hope we can find happiness in the future, not with each other though, I mean he is hot and everything but that’s not the way we see each other.

“Because you are still in love with Derek” Lola my wolf says

“Never stopped loving him, Lola… not since I was 14 years old”

I go to max to help him when I get a mass link sent by Dean

“ATTACK ON THE EAST BORDER, EVERYONE TAKE YOUR POSITION”

Max and I lead everyone to the bunker in the basement and make sure the babies are safe in a separate location with omegas and warriors, yes, warriors, they are the gamma babies and the alpha’s nieces and nephew; they are a very valuable target.

I head out of the pack house to take my position and Max follows suite, he might be a hunter but he care about the people in this pack even if he won’t admit it.

“We need to go the border, NOW”

“What’s wrong Lola?”

“I don’t know, there is something and we need to go there right now”

“Max, I have to go to the borders, protect the pack house” I say running to the direction of the east border not waiting for max to even answer, I trust my wolf’s instinct, she never failed me.

I reach the border and see that the attackers didn’t cross the borders yet, the fight is on the other side, I now know what Lola is talking about, something is different in the air and I can’t really put my hands on it.

I shift and approach the fight, those are not rogues, they fight in formation and they seem to have alphas within them, what the hell is going on?

I engage in the fight, the attackers are strong but not as strong as us, not as strong as me, I’m one of the top warriors of the Crimson River pack, I’m currently fighting two wolves, they are strong but clearly un experienced, I’ll take them down in no time specially in my wolf form.

Suddenly I smell it, the most intoxicating scent I ever smelled, it is so captivating that I’m momentarily distracted and that’s when one of the wolves I was fighting gets the upper hand, launching at me pinning me down on my back, his jaws wide open and fangs out aiming to my throat and I believe that’s how I die.

A deep brown figure swiftly pushes the attacking wolf off of me, he is so fast, I didn’t see it was even a wolf at first, the brown wolf growl fiercely at the other one and he whimpers and run the other way along with the other wolf who I was fighting, I jump on my four legs wondering who is my savior,

he is not one of our own, we lock eyes and that’s when Lola says it.

“MATE”



Oh f**k, I finally find my mate and he is my enemy.
