THE NIGHT I WAS BURIED ALIVE

∆SERAPHINA∆ "Romantic?" Lydia's words shattered something inside me. I almost lost strength in my knees, while my lips trembled, but I forced myself to stand normal, I was the only daughter of an Alpha, I was not raised to cower. The truth cut through me like a shard of ice. I had given up everything, my throne as a princess, my family, my freedom. I had gone against my father and mother who loved me as if I'm their entire world, against my brother who wants nothing but my happiness, against the pack that adored me, all to marry the man I believed could end the bloodshed between our packs. I had believed that love could tame hatred, that I could be the bridge between two worlds, and now, all I received in return was a place right by his side in the grave. Tears blurred my sight. "No… this can’t be real!" Two guards stepped forward, expressionless, there's not even the slightest respect left in their eyes. "Follow us, Luna." What do they mean by following them? Don't they ask for my opinion? Is there no respect for my opinion here? "No," I whispered, shaking my head as my pulse quickened painfully. "No, this is absolute madness! I am the Luna of this pack! You can’t just do reckless things just because of something written on that paper...." "Are you questioning the Alpha’s will?" Lydia’s voice cut through the hall like a venomous blade, as if she was trying to turn everyone against me, "Do you truly wish to insult Kael’s final wish… even after his death?" The sudden voices rose like a tide. "She never respected him when he was alive," an elder snapped bitterly. "If not why would she force him to marry her against his liking?" Another voice joined in, "Exactly! She brought him nothing but shame.... Why respect her now? She was never a Luna in our eyes!" Their words stung like fire, but I forced myself to step back, while breath was trembling. "You all can think whatever you want," I pleaded with a desperate voice which is at the edge of breaking, "but burying a living person, do you truly believe this is acceptable? Are you all this heartless?" "Heartless?" Lydia scoffed. "No, Luna, we are merely following the orders left by the Alpha you failed to please." I opened my mouth to speak again, but someone grabbed my arm, rough, and mercilessly. "Luna!" Lily rushed forward, standing in front of me despite the fact that she was trembling in fear, "You can’t do this to her, she is alive and still breathing, she is our precious princess, please, stop it...." A guard shoved her aside without hesitation. Her fragile body slammed into the stone wall, the crack echoing through the hall. "Lily!" I screamed. She slid to the floor, blood trailing from her temple, eyes half-open as she tried to reach toward me. "My lady… Forgive me..." "Get her out of the way," one guard growled, kicking her arm aside as if she were nothing. "Lily! Lily, no, don’t hurt her, please...." But no one listened, not a single soul stepped forward to help me or Lily. Beta Stephard was also silenced by the guards and elders not allowing him to step forward. Pain ripped through my chest as they dragged me across the hall, my feet scraping against the floor. "Luna Seraphina, accept your fate," one of the elders said coldly. "The Alpha’s will is absolute!" They pulled me toward the open grave beside his coffin, lined with polished silver. The moment the silver touched my skin, my strength vanished completely, my legs and hands were tied up forcefully, something deep inside me screaming in pain and helplessness, but I'm unable to break free. Lydia leaned down, her shadow falling over me like nothing but a curse. "Don’t worry, dear Luna," she whispered, her sugar-coated voice dripping with triumph, "I’ll take care of everything you’ve left behind… including your title, your home, now be a good wife, and join him." With that she ordered to close the lid while I was still breathing, helplessly I watched in horror, the coffin closed before my heart did. The first shovelful of dirt hit the coffin with a dull, and haunting thud. Then another, and another. Soil filled my nose, my mouth, my lungs, my fingers clawed at the wooden lid until they bled. "Ope...." I coughed, choking on dirt. "Open… I said ope... open it… please…" The world shrank, pressing in on all sides, suffocating me with darkness and betrayal. I was the precious daughter of my parents, my brother’s entire world. The only princess in my bloodline, but I crossed a battlefield for love… and he buried me alive for it. I failed my family and my pack just for this heartless man. Not even the Moon Goddess came to help me. "Why…" my voice faded as the darkness pulled me under, "why do I deserve this fate…?" My consciousness slipped away with the final tear sliding down my cheek. "Seraphina… Seraphina… wake up." A voice called out to me from somewhere above the suffocating darkness. Cold fingers of soil still clung to my skin in that unconscious place between death and life, my lungs burned, my chest tightened, the echo of earth falling over me was still ringing in my ears. "Seraphina," the voice came again, sharper this time, sounding impatient, and irritated. My eyes snapped open with a heavy gasp, my whole body jolting as if I was still trapped in the coffin. Warm air hit my lungs painfully, soft sheets tangled beneath my trembling fingers, the scent of fresh lilies, my favourite flowers filled my nose rather than the smell of soil I remembered lastly before taking a last breath. There's no soil, no darkness, my eyes widened in shock as I found myself in my room, and my bed. Moonlight passing through familiar curtains. Impossible. No.... No, this wasn’t real, this couldn’t be real, how is it possible? "Finally awake?" came a low, yet cold voice beside me. My blood froze after looking at him, Kael, the man who ordered my death, he is the man who let them bury me alive. He was sitting right next to me shamelessly, leaning slightly forward, brows furrowed not with concern, but annoyance as if I disturbed him or his precious sleep. "You’re sweating," he said bluntly. "Breathing like you ran for miles.... What’s wrong with you now? What's this mess in the middle of the night?" He picked up a glass of water from the bedside table and held it out without looking directly at me, the same distant courtesy he always had. A gesture without warmth or affection but purely out of obligation which I failed to notice before. Right now, anything from him is like poison, I slapped the glass away with a trembling hand, water spilling across the sheets. His head snapped toward me in irritation, "Seraphina, what the hell...." Before he could finish, my hand moved on its own. My palm met his cheek so hard with all the strength left in my body, his head just jerked to the side because of the strength I've used to slap him. His eyes widened, shock flashing across his face for the first time in years. "You...." "I’ll kill you," I choked out with a shaking breath while tears flowing from my eyes endlessly, "You bastard, I’ll kill you!" He grabbed my wrist quickly, still stunned. "What is wrong with you?" he demanded sharply. "Open your eyes and look at me, did you have a nightmare or what?" Nightmare? No, the funeral, the will and the coffin closing above me. Especially Lydia’s smile, the soil covering my face and the darkness that swallowed me whole, I remembered all of it. Every breath I fought for, every scream no one heard, every betrayal, every whisper, that wasn’t a nightmare. I died, and now… I was back. My heart pounded so violently it hurt, the weight of soil still pressing against my ribs. And the man who killed me sat breathing beside me, alive and untouched. I stared at him, hatred swallowing the last pieces of love I’d clung to in my past life. "I’m not your Luna," I said in a shaking voice, "Not anymore." His brows knit together. "Seraphina...." "Let’s get divorced." This time, the silence wasn’t just loud, it was earth-shattering. Kael’s expression darkened, something sharp and dangerous evident in his eyes. "What," he asked slowly, "did you just say?"
