WALLS HAVE EARS

∆SERAPHINA∆ "Yes," I replied with a faint smile, "I want to restore everything I've lost." Lily’s eyes softened, but confusion clouded her expression, and it's clearly visible, she looked at me as if she were staring at a stranger. "My lady…" she whispered in a mix of quietness and a frightened filled voice, "you’re acting strange… almost like you’ve become an entirely different person." I let out a soft chuckle, genuinely allowing myself to be relieved, "I decided to change, Lily, for the best and for myself." She is too worried and it's all over written on her words though she said nothing, "My lady…" "But there’s something I need you to do," I said, while stepping closer. Lily nodded her head immediately. "I'll do anything for you my lady, what should I do?" I leaned forward, cupped my hand near her ear, and whispered the words only she could hear. Her whole face is drained of color. "Lord Sebastian?" She gasped, stepping back in shock. "My lady… you want me to..." "Shhh," I placed a finger against her lips, and scanned through the corridor making sure none heard her mentioning that name. Even silence had a weight here. "These walls have ears, Lily, you never know who might be listening, so, don't casually mention that name." She swallowed hard, her voice so faint it was barely a breath, "But if I do just as you said, then the two packs...." "I know exactly what will happen," I cut her off gently, because I'm well aware of everything. Kael’s pack might be strong but not too strong enough, and I'm going to take advantage of this. The elders who mocked me will bow their heads, Lydia’s little proud smile will finally crack, and Kael, he will understand that the woman he buried alive was not a powerless offering. I was a princess, a daughter of the most powerful Alpha, back then, I intentionally forgot who I was… But not anymore. Lily clenched her fists at her sides. "My lady, this is dangerous… if anyone finds out...." "I don’t care," I replied quietly. Last life, I lost myself and became helpless, because I've no one to support or protect me, just to prove my loyalty to Kael, I cut ties with the people who loved me most. This time, I won’t make the same mistake. Tears gathered in Lily’s eyes, but she nodded with a determined mind while suppressing all her fear. "As you wish, my lady," she whispered. Her voice might be trembling, but her loyalty didn’t, "I will do just as you said...." I exhaled slowly, my heart beating with something fierce and new strength I had buried right along with myself. Lily left from there immediately, once she was gone, I stepped inside the dusty room alone. All I could see was broken bottles glittering faintly under the faint light. Shelves stood bare, covered in layers of neglect, the air still smelled faintly of crushed and dried herbs. I walked to the center of the room, fingertips brushing the wooden table where I used to mix remedies, while preparing the notes. "I gave up everything for love," I whispered, the words bitter on my tongue. "Even the one thing that made me special." In my past life, I gave up my career, my pride, my family, all for a man who saw me as nothing more than a political tool. Not this time. This time, I'd live differently, I'd love with pride for what I love and for the people who loved me truthfully. I closed my eyes and exhaled slowly, in the back of my mind, a memory flickered, the faces of warriors dying from that mysterious plague that swept through the packs in a few years, it began like a normal fever but took many lives. The fever that even Kael couldn't survive, that was the same fever that made him totally weak, in the end he died in that battle. I had tried so hard back then, day and night, studying, and searching for a cure. But by the time I found one, it was already too late, because I've dismantled the laboratory at this time in my previous life, and after a long time, I finally started my research, that was the reason why I wasn't able to find the current in the right time. I still remembered how Kael's hand felt in mine as the light faded from his eyes. The fear of losing him had shattered me back then. Now, it only burned like an old scar. Seeing him alive again should've made me happy, but how could I be happy for a man who made a script to bury me even while dying? I looked around the room once more, and nodded to myself. "I'll start again," I whispered softly. "I'll fix what I couldn't before." If the plague was coming again, I should be ready this time. I'd save who I could, and I'd never let anyone decide my fate again. I don't know if it's hell or a heaven who gave the chance for me, and I'm going to prove myself with the chance I got. Even with the new sunrise, I still hadn't slept, my body felt heavy, but my mind was very clear, and sharper than it had been in years. Then, outside the window, I heard it, loud and excited voices. Laughter, and shouts, even the sound of victory drums echoing through the courtyard. I frowned and stepped to the balcony. The entire pack was gathered at the gates, their cheers rising into the pale morning air. The warriors were lined up, smiling, shouting, clapping each other on the back. "What's going on?" I called down to a maid rushing by. She looked up with a bright smile, breathless from excitement. "Luna! Our Beta has returned! After two years guarding the border, she's finally home!" I paused for a second, as I know very well who that Beta is. The golden warrior of the Shadow Howlers. The woman this pack adored more fiercely than they ever respected their Luna. The one who had always stood at Kael’s side in ways I never could, and the one who, in my past life, had been the first to steal everything I loved. The crowd roared again, drums echoing through the courtyard as everyone gathered in overflowing excitement. Cheers shaking the morning air, they're celebrating her return like a festival. I stepped onto the balcony, my hand tightening around the railing. Last time… This was when everything began to go wrong. Her influence had grown while mine had been crushed, her loyalty to Kael had been praised while my loyalty was buried beneath whispers and mockery. She had been the light of this pack, and I? I had been nothing but a shadow at his side. But this time, I'll rewrite the history she wanted to create. The gates were opened widely for her, she walked in with that same proud expression as always, armor shining under dawn’s light, the confident smile on her lips unchanged… the same one that once made me feel inferior, useless, and replaceable. And the moment I saw her… I gripped the railing harder than before, my knuckles turned white. Because one cold truth slammed into me every time I looked at her, she was the woman who once ruined my life had returned. The cheering pack, the pounding drums, the blur of faces, everything faded into a dull hum. She lifted her head. Our eyes met. A strange feeling passed through me, my pulse hammering within my nerves, not with fear… but with something sharper.... Stronger than hatred or grudge. I inhaled once, steadying myself, as she wasn't the only one who is back, I'm also back this time. Her elegant smile widened, and for the first time since my rebirth, I smiled back. "Welcome back, Lydia!"
