The guard trembled as he unrolled the sealed parchment, his voice barely above a whisper. "On the 25th day of last month, Alpha Jaxon Shadowfell of the Shadowlands pack welcomed Kai Thorn. It has been confirmed that the Kai will take a mate in four days." A mate ceremony in four days? Mate? Raina felt the world tilt beneath her. A sharp ringing filled her ears. She could see the gaurd lips moving, but the words blurred into nothing. Only one thing remained clear, the mocking smile on Lady Helena lips. Was she laughing at her?
