“Here you are.” A familiar sent hit Raina’s nose followed by a voice that sent a cold shudder down her spine. Raina couldn’t move as she stood frozen as a figure stepped out from the corner. It was Axel. For a moment, her heart beat almost stopped, her mind went blank. She had just seen him not long ago, how was he here now? It was like facing a predator that had cornered its prey. Instinct kicked in, and she turned to run. Bang. The door behind her had already been shut tight. The guard that came with her was nowhere to be seen.. Raina’s searched the room but the guard was gone.. How did he? Axel chuckled, the sound dripping with sarcasm. “Do you really think you can escape me?” Raina’s breath stopped for a moment as the first question that cross her mind was "Did he hear the rumours?" "It wasn’t cheating Raina." She closed her eyes and took a deep breath before forcing them open again. Leaning against the door, she forced herself to meet his gaze, suppressing the tremor in her voice. “What do you want?” Axel golden eyes raked over her, slow before he took a few step closer to her sniffing her scent.. Ha paused, took few steps back again with a frown on his face.. The frown didn't last for a second as he masked them and then forced out a smile. “What do I want?” He smirked. “Have you forgotten? Someone made a promise to me. If I saved her cousin, she would give herself to me. Have you forgotten?” Axel paused the quickly added. "Do you really have to ask your mate, what does he want?" Raina’s stomach twisted. Fu*King pervert.. In a world filled with striking beauties, she was no one, just a discarded servant. Why can’t he just reject her. Gritting her teeth, she forced herself to stand tall. "Reject me Axel, I fu*king don't want you." Raina suddenly spat, her voice cold. A flash of anger crossed Axel face. In a blink, he was on her. His hand shot out, claws extending as he seized her wrist in an iron grip and yanked her into his arms. “Pervert, Let me go” She struggled instinctively, but he bared his fangs, amusement laced with menace. “Let you? You are mate and we gonna keep it a secret like that.” His voice was silk and steel. “And never will I reject you. Not in this word or the next." Before she could answer, he swept her up effortlessly, cradling her as if she weighed nothing. “No! Let me go!” Raina thrashed, but his hold was like a vice. He move forward, pushing aside a heavy curtain. Beyond it was a dimly lit chamber bare except for a small cot meant for exhausted servants. But they weren't alone. A man stood beside the bed, dressed in a green medieval tunic. His gentle smile was a stark contrast to the tension in the room. Axel unceremoniously dropped Raina onto the cot, then turned to the stranger. “Check her hands.” Raina’s chest rose and fell rapidly, her body coiled for another fight. But the stranger only stepped forward with an easy grace, his voice warm. “Miss, please allow me to tend to your wounds.” Something about him was calming, like a steady stream in a storm. Despite herself, she hesitated, then, slowly, she extended her hands. As soon as he saw them, the light in his eyes darkened. “Who did this?” His voice was still smooth, but there was a steel edge beneath it. Raina remained silent. The pain in her fingers had long since numbed to a dull throb, worsened by her latest injuries. The palace healers had made no move to treat her, and now, after Helena attack, the damage felt irreversible. The stranger moved swiftly, fetching a basin of clean water. He dipped a cloth into it, carefully washing the raw abrasions. Then, he took out a small tin of gel like ointment and pressed the cool salve against her skin. A sharp, searing pain shot through her. Raina bit down on her lower lip, swallowing the gasp that threatened to escape. A thin sheen of sweat gathered on her forehead as her body tensed. Axel sharp eyes didn’t miss it. His expression darkened as he turn to the stranger. “What’s wrong with her?”
