Chapter 7. Sadie. My mouth dropped open and I let the first thought in my head fly out my mouth. “You’ve gotta be f*****g kidding me.” Shadow flinched, glanced away, then rearranged himself by sitting up straighter and putting his cigarette out in the ashtray discreetly hidden in the corner of the desk. Somehow, I hadn’t noticed that before. Then he looked straight at me so I could see the depths of his soul, the honesty that was as obvious as the pain on his face. “Your mother could be alive Sadie. I’m so sorry I didn’t find out earlier.” Hot tears filled my eyes and coursed down my face unchecked. I had no idea what to say. “Um...” Shadow made a strange, growly sound and tsked with disgust. “I wish I’d found out while your father was still alive. We could have re-united them.” I
