“Gentlemen, let me put it to you this way, you three have a choice. You confess now and I’ll deal with you myself. If you don’t confess, I’ll report this to the headmaster, and you know he’ll report it to your parents. Either way you’re in for a nasty punishment. My way you avoid the embarrassment of having this on your records forever. What will it be?”
The boys looked back and forth to each other, neither wanting to speak first, all waiting for one of the others to talk.
“What will it be?” she asked again.
The boys were still silent, while Miss Click waited patiently for one of them to speak. When no one volunteered a confession, the young teacher turned to Mr. Dunfee, “Sir, will you ring up Mr. Knoll, I think he’d like an opportunity to take care of this.”
