His Trick
[Xavier’s POV]
I could never seem to shift my attention from that tiny woman. She looked like she was examining every little thing in the room. My mind drifted back to how terrified I felt as I watched her standing frozen in the middle of the street as that f*****g truck came barreling down the road. I had already texted Scott to find that maniac and to make sure that he would get fired before the day was over. Miss Young could have lost her life in a matter of seconds. And for what? A stupid animal! So reckless! I yanked her to safety before I even fully registered what was happening. All I could think about in that moment was to save her—to protect her. I had only known the woman for a day! Why was I behaving like this?
