"How is it going, Ana?"
She nodded so as not to be distracted.
"Ma'am, we need the email the management sent." She said calmly.
"I will check for it now." I brought out my phone and luckily for me, I still had it.
"Ma'am, I have something that has been bothering me since the original document got missing." She said calmly.
"What is it, Aria?" I asked calmly but curious.
"I don't know how this will sound to you ma'am."
"Just say it however it is, Aria."
"It's about Mr. Ethan."
"What, Ethan? What about him?" I asked curiously.
"Ever since the document got missing, he has been coming around, so I suspect... he has an idea of where or who is with the document."
"Ugh... no, I doubt he does." I replied calmly. "Uhm… Aria, what I and Ethan have.... is personal so please let us continue with what matters to us. As we know time is not by our side, we have to be as fast and careful as possible." I said. "Here is the email."
"I am sorry ma'am if I am being an intruder." she pleaded.
"Don't worry about that. Let's continue with what concerns us now."
She faced the system again to continue the forging of the document. That word, forging, always makes me hate myself.
‘I am better than this and I am not supposed to be involved in such a mess, but I have no choice right now," I thought and hit my forehead.
"Ma'am, we have a problem now." She said softly.
"What? A problem? Oh s**t! What can we do about it?"
"It's the company's stamp." She paused. "We need it, badly."
"Where are we going to find that now?" My head spun.
"I suggest we sneak into the M.D., Mr. Dean's office," she said slowly.
"Sneak?"
She nodded.
"What if we get caught? That will add to the problem we have right now."
"This is becoming harder to carry out than I thought.” I whispered.
“We just have to do it and we will be really careful," she said calmly.
I leaned back on my swivel chair and rubbed the back of my head.
“I noticed Mr. Dean never misses his lunchtime, so we can go there during lunch and search for it. It could be in one of his drawers.”
"What if we get caught by any other staff"
“We will play it safe. I promise.” She said calmly.
“Ok. Then.”
This company has drenched me completely. I had to forge a document and the next step is to sneak into the M.D's office.
"Miss Ava..." Aria called. I jerked my head up.
"Are you alright? You look worried," she asked.
"I really want this project to get over, so that I can have my peace of mind back," I responded calmly.
“You will be fine, ma'am.”
I nodded.
"If this works out, I will make sure Mr. Dean pleads for forgiveness before leaving this city."
I stared at my phone.
"It's lunch time, Aria," I said.
It's time to carry out this risky act.
"I know, ma'am," she said without hesitation. "I will start by just roaming around his office and once he leaves, I will notify you."
"Uhm... ok," I replied, my voice cracking. "Are you sure this is going to work?"
"Yes, Miss. Ava," she replied gently. "I should go now. I will call you when it's time," she added.
"Be careful, please," I pleaded, my voice trembling.
"The stamp is on the left drawer."
"How do you get to know about that?"
"I don't think that should matter now, ma'am."
She shut the door behind her.
I shut my eyes tightly, put my both hands together and muttered softly,
'Lord, let this cup pass over me.’
A few seconds later, my phone rang.
"Oh, it's time," I told myself.
I got up, picked up the document and slipped it into a bag. I stared at the document for a while.
How could she make this up? This looks nothing different from the original. Aria is such a genius. No one will ever know that this is not the original, but without a stamp, we are done for.
I hurried up to the M.D.'s office. I sighted Aria at a corner. She gave me a thumbs up, which was supposed to ease my fears, but it didn't.
I got into the office carefully, not allowing even the sound of my heels come out. I went straight to the left drawer.
Aria is truly a genius. It was right there.
I smiled.
I stamped it on the document immediately and smiled wider.
I left the office. I sighted Aria again at the same spot. I hurried to her and hugged her so tight.
"Let's go to the office," I said joyfully.
When we got into the office, I brought out the document and showed
She smiled. “No one will ever detect it,” she said with a smiley face.
“Thank you once again. I can't thank you enough for this. If I were to be alone in this... I would have given up... but you gave me hope and reason not to give up.”
“Ma'am, it's fine... you have helped me a lot too and this... this is just a simple way of me telling you that I cherish you and I'm never going to leave you stranded as long as I still remain your personal assistant.”
I hugged her so tight.
'Mr. Dean, it's almost time to let you know that it isn't everyone you mess with.' I thought.
We heard a soft knock from the door that made us flinch.
My pulse vibrated immediately.
'Who could that be?' Aria said, going straight to the door.
'What? Mr. Dean? I hope he did not by any means see me sneak into his office. Oh my goodness, I am going to pass out.'
'Miss Ava Collins,' he called loudly.
“Tomorrow is the grand finale of this irritating project and I must confess, this was my worst experience ever,” he scoffed. “I hate incompetent and unskilled people and that is all that developing companies of yours have...”
“What do you want? Sir,?” I asked coldly.
“Well we will be having a brief meeting concerning the project in the next few hours. Get your credentials ready.” He said and left with a heavy hiss.
