JEALOUSY

Elena felt her cheeks become warm. She was finally here. Her only chance had begun. Damien stood in the grand hall of the mansion, looking at her with those piercing silver eyes. For a moment, everything else disappeared. Elena’s heart was beating so fast she could hear it in her ears. She held her small suitcase tightly, feeling small and nervous in the big, beautiful space. “Elena,” Damien said again in his deep, velvety voice. “Welcome to your new home.” Before Elena could find words to reply, Lila stepped out from behind him. She was beautiful, elegant, and confident. She immediately wrapped her arm around Damien’s waist and leaned her head against his shoulder lovingly. “Welcome, Elena,” Lila said with a sweet smile, but her eyes were sharp and calculating. “We are so happy to have you here with us. Aren’t we, darling?” Damien nodded and put his arm around Lila’s shoulders, pulling her closer. “Yes. We will make sure you are comfortable and safe.” Elena felt a sharp pain in her chest. Seeing them together like this...so close, so lovey dovey....hurt more than she could describe. Damien’s hand was resting comfortably on Lila’s waist. Lila was smiling up at him with open adoration. They looked perfect together. The jealousy burned inside Elena like fire. “Thank you,” Elena said softly, trying to keep her voice steady. “I am grateful for this opportunity.” Lila smiled wider and kissed Damien’s cheek lightly. “Of course, dear. Come, let us introduce you to everyone properly. We want you to feel at home.” Damien and Lila walked together arm in arm. Elena followed a few steps behind them. They entered a large sitting room where many people were waiting.... servants, pack warriors, and some important members of the Blackthorn Pack. “Everyone,” Damien said in his strong Alpha voice, “this is Elena Voss. She will be staying with us as my ward until she turns eighteen. Please make her feel welcome and help her with anything she needs.” The people nodded and greeted Elena politely. Some smiled kindly. But Elena could only focus on how Damien and Lila were acting. Lila kept touching Damien’s arm, laughing softly at his words, and looking at him with love. Damien was polite and calm, but he did not move away from her touch. He even gently kissed the top of Lila’s head once. One of the older servants, a kind-looking woman named Mrs. Harper, smiled warmly at Elena. “We have prepared a nice room for you, miss. It is on the second floor with a good view of the forest. I hope you will like it.” Lila laughed lightly and leaned her head on Damien’s shoulder again. “Yes, we made sure it is comfortable. We want you to feel at home here, Elena. Right, my love?” Damien nodded. “Of course.” Elena felt more and more jealous with every passing minute. She wanted to be the one close to Damien. She wanted to be the one he smiled at like that. The lovey dovey way they were acting was like a knife in her heart. They continued the tour of the mansion. Damien and Lila showed her the big dining room with its long wooden table, the huge library full of books, the beautiful garden outside with flowers and fountains, and the training area where pack warriors practiced. All the time, Lila was touching Damien, calling him “darling,” and acting like the perfect future Luna. Damien was patient with her, sometimes whispering something in her ear that made Lila laugh happily. Elena walked behind them quietly. She tried to smile when people spoke to her, but inside she was hurting. She remembered all her steamy dreams about Damien. In those dreams, he held her, kissed her, and whispered to her with passion. Seeing him with Lila made those dreams feel even more painful. When they finally reached her new room on the second floor, Elena was tired from all the emotions. The room was beautiful..... a big comfortable bed, nice wooden furniture, a large window with a view of the forest, and even a small balcony. Lila smiled. “We hope you like it. If you need anything, just ask the servants. Damien and I will be very busy with pack matters, but we will check on you from time to time.” Damien looked at Elena for a longer moment. His silver eyes seemed to see her clearly. “Rest well, Elena. We will have dinner together later this evening. You can join us in the dining room at seven.” Then he and Lila left the room, still walking close together, still acting lovey dovey. Elena closed the door behind them and sat on the big bed. Tears came to her eyes again. She was finally here, in Damien’s house, but seeing him with Lila hurt so much. Yet her forbidden love for him was still burning strongly inside her. Her only chance had begun, but it was going to be much harder than she thought.
