Chapter 5: This was the beginning of her only chance. The morning of the move arrived. The sun was shining through the windows of the Voss house. Elena sat in the living room with her small suitcase beside her. Her heart was beating very fast. She had not slept well the night before. She kept thinking about Damien and what her new life would be like in his estate. Her mother’s cruel words from the day before still echoed in her head. She felt nervous, scared, and excited all at the same time. She was wearing her simple blue dress. Her hair was brushed neatly. She had tried to hide the bruise on her cheek with a little powder. Her hands were cold. She kept looking at the door, waiting for the moment to come. Suddenly, the sound of cars stopping outside the house made her stand up. Two black SUVs parked in front of the house. They looked expensive and strong. The doors opened. Several tall, serious men stepped out. They were Damien’s guards. They wore dark uniforms with the Blackthorn Pack symbol on their chests. They looked powerful and respectful. One of the guards, a tall man with short hair, knocked on the door. Sophia opened it with a cold face. Elena stood behind her mother, holding her suitcase tightly. “Miss Elena Voss?” the guard said in a respectful voice. “Alpha Blackthorn sent us to bring you to the estate. We are here to pick you up.” Elena’s heart pounded. This was real. She was really leaving. Sophia nodded. “She is ready. Take her.” Elena said goodbye to her family. Lucas gave her a small hug. “Be safe,” he whispered. Her stepfather said nothing. Her mother gave her one last cold look but said nothing. Elena stepped out of the house with her suitcase. The guards took her bag and put it in the car. One of them opened the door for her politely. Elena sat in the back seat. The car smelled of leather and pine. The seats were soft and comfortable. She looked back at the house as the car started moving. She felt a mix of sadness and relief. The cars drove through the pack town. Elena looked out the window. The trees passed by quickly. The road became smoother as they left the town and entered the forest area. The drive was long. Elena’s mind was full of thoughts. She thought about Damien. She wondered if he would be waiting for her. She wondered if Lila would be there. She remembered her mother’s words calling her useless. She remembered her dreams about Damien. After almost one hour, the cars turned into a long private road. Tall trees lined both sides. At the end of the road, a big, beautiful estate appeared. It was a large stone mansion with big windows and a grand entrance. The garden was perfect with flowers and green grass. It looked powerful and elegant, just like its owner. The cars stopped in front of the main door. The guards opened the door for Elena. She stepped out with her suitcase. The air smelled of pine and fresh flowers. The mansion was even bigger up close. One of the guards said, “Alpha Blackthorn is waiting inside.” Elena’s heart was racing. She walked up the steps. The door opened. A servant welcomed her politely. Elena stepped inside. The inside of the mansion was beautiful. The floor was marble. The lights were bright. Everything looked expensive and perfect. Elena felt small in such a big place. Then she saw him. Damien Blackthorn stood in the grand hall. He looked even more handsome than usual. His silver eyes looked at her. For a moment, Elena forgot how to breathe. This was the man she loved. This was the beginning of her only chance. Damien walked towards her. “Elena,” he said in his deep voice. “Welcome to your new home.” Elena felt her cheeks become warm. She was finally here. Her only chance had begun.
