Chapter.2

After having a hectic lunch rush, I head out to have some fresh air. Moving close to the railings, I take a look at everything around me like I haven't before. I wondered if my life would have been much better if I hadn't done the mistakes I've made in the past. But if I were to say that, then is my son also a mistake, cause I can't imagine a life without my son now. Then my phone rings, another person I couldn't possibly live without. “Hi, mom”. “Hey, how are you doing? On your lunch break?”, Maria Streams answers. “Yes, I just came out, we had a massive lunch rush today. How are you?” “I'm good, everything is going well. How's my little boy doing?”. “He's fine. I'll be picking him up later after work” “Alright then”. There's a sudden silence, with me knowing what my mom would probably ask me next. “Sophia, is everything alright? How are you coping with everything?” with a calming voice. “It's not easy, mom. But it's doable. As long as I have my son, I have nothing to worry about” sighning. “W-why don't you consider…. telling him, so it'll relieve you of some stress”, almost hesistating. “Mom, we've talked about this, I'm not going to let anyone take my son away from me, I'll handle it all on my own”. “But……” “Mom, I have to go I'll call you back later”. “Alright then, take care” I end the call and head my head sighing out. Annabelle calling from behind, “Sophia! Let's go”. We go back into the restaurant. “The new complexes opening ceremony will be held next week, so expect a bigger lunch rush than this and the CEO will also come around to check things out in that day, so let's be present”, Selene says as we walk up to her. Then suddenly remembering, “That's Wednesday right, I don't think I can make it. My son has a half day at the daycare, and I have to pick him up right after noon.” I said. “Well you'll have to make it work cause, we all have to be present on that day” she says with an expression that says there's nothing she can do. “Can I bring him here then? he won't cause any distractions”. “Well if you say so, and please don't be late”, facing Annabelle. “Of course” she replies with a grin. My shift ends an hour later, and I leave to get my son. Getting to the day care, playing with his peers. He takes a look at me and running up to me, I go on one knee and open my arms to welcome him, when I thought hit me again, after hugging him and taking a close look made me realise that I hadn't noticed he had a striking resemblance to “that” person. If he looks like him this much at this age, he'll probably be his doppelganger when he's even older. Would it be right to hope that he never meets him? *** I arrive in Albany two days before the openings. I have a lot of work to do back in the Hamptons, so I just had to get this all over with. I get to the headquarters to see how things are holding up. Entering into the company, I get greetings from every angle as always, and just walking past them. Getting to the office, I take a sit on one of the sofas. “Good to see you boss, So glad you are here”, a voice from behind, walking in and taking a seat right opposite mine. “Well I was told that I had to attend” I replied. “Fool, you don't like attending such events but you volunteer to build those complexes for the town, and all because of some stupid oppositions”. I turn my face to the side with a brow raised, “You won't still be in the position of Deputy if we don't do so, i***t”. “Well I could probably just go work for Jovex Industries, I'll be employed straight up, you know that”, he said smirking. I don't know where I probably got a friend like him. “Bastard, I know you've probably been thinking of that all this while, go ahead then”, leaning back into my chair. “I couldn't possibly do that to you, how are you the doing, how are things in the Hamptons?”. “Same old things, nothing new. How are things going with the rivals, anything new?” I asked looking around. “Nothing unusual, but the construction of the new hotel is almost done, and I have the feeling they also have something planned. But there's no problem.” My phone rings and I bring it out revealing the caller to James. “She still calls you? She never gets tired.” He replies. “I just changed my phone a few months ago and I don't know how she still got my cellphone number”. “You should know Sabrina.”, getting up and moving to his desk, “She probably heard that you are going to be in town this week, she's looking for attention”,seating in his chair. “Well she won't find any”. Coming back to the sofa, “And how are things going with,.... you know who? Have you heard anything from her yet?”. My expression turns cold, with me eyeing up my friend, “You just have a way to ruin the mood don't you? I don't have any info on her, and I don't want to know.”,I said with an unchanged expression. “So you don't know where she is exactly?” “You know the only reason I'm probably still talking to you is because you're a good friend or am I wrong about the ‘good’ part?”. “I can still apply to Joseph's company if you want?”, he said smiling. “Fool” Pacing around the office with my P.A and secretary looking scared in front of me. “How could you possibly not know that those buildings were his? How can you be so incompetent?”. “We are sorry sir, but we were told from the information we got that the complexes were being built by our partners”. Thinking of something, “Then it seems we need a new plan now” still pacing. “Exactly sir, the planning committee has set a date for next week so….”, I cut him off almost immediately, “Next week is too far, we must get something done before Wednesday”. “But sir, we don't…….”, shaking, “Didn't you just hear what I said, come up with something before Wednesday or it's off with you. Get out”, I said almost yelling. When they were out, I had a sit. “Charles isn't deserving of all he has, I won't let him get the better of me” with an aggressive look on my face, shifting into a smirk.
