After looking around for a long time, I started panicking. Where could Liam be? “Sophia lets check around the elevators”, Annabelle walking up to me. We got to the pathway to the elevators and noticed a lot of people where still around and were getting on.
Then I noticed a small figure amongst them. Liam is so tiny that they probably didn't notice him. He had a slight trip and he sat on the ground crying. I ran up to him and wrapped my arms around him.
“I'm so sorry my love. Please forgive me.”, I had been so frustrated that I couldn't take it anymore, I also let out my tears.
“Momma”, Liam said still in tears as I rocked him. “I'm so sorry”.
Annabelle came up to us, “Don't worry, Sophia. Your son is safe”.
“Son?”. I heard a voice I couldn't even expect I would in a very long time. Charles.

Still looking astonishly at Sophia still on her knees with the child in her arms. A young lady walks up to comfort her.
“ Don't worry, Sophia. Your son is safe”.
Trying to understand what could be going, “Son?”, not realising that I had actually said that out loud. Now Sophia is up on her feet, and looking at me directly with the child still in her arms.
For some reason I couldn't avert my gaze from hers. She hands over the child to the lady, “Could you please take Liam back me?”. The young lady walks away with the child.
She turns back to us and looks at James. “Hi, James. It's good to see you”. James answering, “ Likewise. How have you been, Sophia?”.
“Good, just the same old things”, turns back to me, “ It's good to see you too…… Charles.” “Of course, it's been a while.”, finally able to look away from her. She looks away and smiles, probably thinking 3yrs hasn't been ‘a while’ for her.
“Well we actually came to check out the complex”, James hurriedly said sensing some tension.
“Oh, okay then. I'll leave you to it”, walks away with a forced smile.
Turning back to James, “What was that?”. “What? She's your ex not mine”.
“Let's leave”, turning towards the elevator,“Just because you saw your ex, Coward”. He walks away to look around and I just had to do the same.
After taking a look round, the last place we had to look at is a restaurant and that seems to be where Sophia works.
She stands at the very end of the hall at the corner, looking after her “Son”. She turns around to look in our direction all while holding on to her son's hand.
“I hope everything is going well, no problems”, James asks the one in charge. “Yes sir. There's no problem. Everything's going smoothly”. “That's good then, our work here is done”, I said almost immediately. Then James walks up to Sophia to talk to her, “Can I take a look?”, Sophia nods.
James bends over, “Hi there. What's his name?”. “Liam!”, walking up to them, “Or am I wrong?”. “No, you're right”, obviously forcing a smile. “Since I know you work here, I'll try to drop by once a while”, James continues. “Oh no, you don't have to”.
“I insist. We have to go now. I'll see you later”, faces me, “Let's go”. I looked at Sophia who was trying to avoid looking in my direction and got one more glimpse of the child in the stroller and then left with James.

I finally get to sit after a long time today now looking at sleeping Liam.
“Here, have this. You must be exhausted.”, Annabelle hands me a glass of water. “You've had a long day, but how do you know the CEO and Deputy? You guys seem to be close”. Not taking my eyes off Liam, “We are friends, at least we were”.
“So not anymore?”. I don't give a reply.
“How is he doing?”, Selene walks up to us. “He's good, probably just tired”. “You can have a day off tomorrow”, “Oh, you don't have to worry”, I waved my hand. “I insist, you need it”, she walks away. “Thank you!”.
Getting home, I feed Liam his dinner and put him to sleep. Sitting on the couch, my mind trails back to when Charles arrives at the complex. How could I not have thought of it, he's a businessman and also owns buildings and hotels around New York.
“I wonder how it didn't cross my mind to even….”, there's a knock on the door. I open it to see and find, “Didn't expect to see me, did you?”, smiling, “ Come on in, Mom”.
She enters and I help her with her bags. “How's my grandson doing?”, sitting on the couch. “I just put him to sleep. Have you had dinner?”. “Yes, I'll just have water”. I take out a bottle from the fridge and fill a glass with water.
“Is everything alright?”, walking up to her with the glass and handing it over, “Like what?”. Going back to return the bottle, “Work, Liam and what we were supposed to talk about”, I stopped in my tracks just remembering that. “Sophia, I'm your mother. I know you better than anyone else. What is it?”.
Hesitating, “I met h-him”. “Who?”. “Charles”
With a surprised look on my mother's face, “Really?”.
