Why do I care?

1018 Words
Zecel I watched her wandering around the streets and had to admit that even with the blue powder on her lips, she looked beautiful. Her curvy but still muscular figure impressed me whenever I saw her and her full lips made me want to have her but NO, I will not attach myself to anyone, not after what happened to my brother and his loved one. This world was too evil for love, too evil for humans and half bloods and as long as it stayed that way, I would never allow myself to fall in love. I watched her argue with a group of demons and wanted to intervene as she showed them her contract. Good girl, I thought. The demons started to back off and I thought she had everything under control until one of them lunged at her. I held my breath and it took me all my strength not to jump in and kill this demon. The contracts were the only type of law demons normally followed, but this one made himself outlawed for not following. My name and my status should have been enough to protect the girls, but this demon was either crazy or just really dumb. She shot him with her energy pulse directly into the chest and he went flying two dozen meters. Suddenly she turned around, ready to leave this place but she didn’t register the demon running in her direction. How often have I said it to her in training. Concentrate on the enemy, never turn your back on the enemy, always be prepared, but she seemed to have forgotten our lessons. The demon grabbed her neck and lifted her of the ground. In this moment I saw red and lunged at him with my dagger. His lifeless body fell to the ground and I had his head in my hands and turned around to face a barely conscious Aya, who wasn’t able to support her weight for much longer. I tossed the head to the side and caught her in my arms. She was still conscious, but her words seemed a little confusing. “My knight in shiny armor , thank you for rescuing me.” I brought her to an old building, where I had the equipment for this observation mission set up and she fell asleep in my arms. I gently placed her on an old sofa and went back to the monitors. Petra and Aya both had little cameras hidden in their jackets and I saw Petra moving. She reached a pretty dirty looking street “I think I found him, after asking two addicts for Jaxs’ location I think I am on the right track over” the walky- talky went silent. “As soon as you see him transmit his precise location and head back to base, over “ “Understood, over” At least Petra seemed to be ready for more field trips. Aya never learned to fight or to survive without a master. The last months must have been hard for her. Learning how to fight for food and for her own safety, losing her first love and losing her friends at the brothel. This girl was trough a lot but never gave up. Her gifts were extraordinary, and I had the feeling that she was able to do a lot more with the right training. Finding out more about her gifts proved to be a difficult task. Sindra tried to contact other demons from the revolution but nobody had ever heard of a hybrid like Aya. Watching her sleep made me calm down a little, because I knew that she was okay. Her bottom lip trembled slightly and as I touched her hands, they were a little cold. Demons didn’t feel the cold or hot temperatures on their skin like humans did, which made it easier for us to stay in buildings without heating or an open fire for a longer period of time. I didn’t bring a blanket with me, so I decided to wrap myself around Ayas’ body to give her some warmth. I just wanted to be near her, to warm her and protect her.  Her curves fit perfectly to my body and her smell was intoxicating. Sweet like vanilla with a hint of cherry blossom. It felt so good and my mind started to drift away and I fell asleep. “Zecel can you hear me? I found Jax. He sells his drugs at Lenox avenue where the dark yellow building is. I will come back to base, over” My eyes snapped open and I fell from the sofa, while trying to reach for the walky- talky “ Damn” I muted. “Understood, come back to base over” As I turned around, I saw Aya twisting her body and slowly she woke up from her deep slumber. “Zecel, you ? What happened why am I here?” “You don’t remember at all?” “Well I know that I was attacked and that the demon tried to suffocate me, but than I saw a shadow and everything went fuzzy.” “I killed him and brought you here. You are an amateur at fighting. How often have I said to you not to turn your back on demons? How often??” I yelled She swallowed and a tear left her eye. “I am sorry, I didn’t mean to worry you. I just thought that I shot him with a strong enough pulse to knock him out and I..” I didn’t let her finish her apology and wrapped my arms around her body. “Don't do  this ever again, Don’t make me worry about you. Understood?” I heard her muffled voice, which was hardly to understand because I was pressing her face against my chest “Understood.” After some time of standing there, arm in arm I heard Petra entering the building and loosened my grip on Aya. “Oh hey girl, why are you back before me? What happened?” “Well there was a fight with a demon and I lost.” She said with her face red. “Okay let us head back to the Revolution and plan our next moves against Jax and the factor Z drug ring. You can talk about Ayas mistake on our way back.”
