50 I got home late after my session with Kimberley. Not desperately late, but more so than usual. Sandra was already prowling round the kitchen. I gave her a peck on the cheek. “Sorry about the time, Love,” I said. “I had to file an urgent story, and it took longer than expected.” “That’s all right,” she replied. “I know it’s all in a good cause.” She was referring to the fact that I was determined to do as much as I could to bring Brian’s killer to justice. Which I was, as long as I didn’t incriminate myself in the process. It amazed me in some ways that Sandra didn’t suspect me of having an affair, or subject me to an inquisition of some kind.
