In order to milk everything I could from my story about being attacked, I wrote a further story called The Skull Crusher and Me which recounted the episode, and analysed the many reasons that the Skull Crusher might have had for wanting to see me dead. Prime amongst these was probably the fact that I’d saved many potential victims by alerting them to the threat they faced, and advising them to take appropriate precautions every time they went out.
No wonder the Skull Crusher was so riled at me. I had denied him the easy pickings that he’d enjoyed at the beginning of his career.
