Lioness " Sir " I saluted . He nodded . I dropped my hand . " I am sending you back Lioness . " What ! No ! " Sir ... but " " That's final , I can't have you here after what happened. It's a miracle you even survived. Go home sergeant you have served the country well ." His voice stern . What the hell ! I miss home ,I miss my husband but I love serving in the military. " you are to leave upon immediate effect . In ten minutes the plane to The United States will be here board it ." What happened was my fault. I know it was. I miscalculated everything and ... " Yes sir " I saluted. I hate to leave but those were the orders I must obey . I turned to leave , I will miss this base . There are so many memories, good, awful, and ugly. "I hope you understand, Lioness, that I am doing this for your benefit. Return home and get some rest. Consequential damages can occur." he stated "Thank you, sir," I said. I'll be damaged when I go home, but I'm pleased Nate is there for me. I returned to my tent to pack up my belongings. I'm stuffing my clothes into my bag and cramming them all in. I shifted my gaze to the unoccupied beds. In my brain, I could hear hearty laughter. I'm alone in a room with no beds. When I arrived, they were not empty. I took a deep breath and began carrying my belongings, placing the large bag on my back while carrying the others. was already on its way. Cargo was being loaded, as well as cartons, which I couldn't look at without being nauseated. I walked into the plane and sat down. I'm going to sleep for the whole of the flight. I hadn't gotten any rest in days. It's been an absolute nightmare. On the bright side, I have my hubby to look forward to. His soothing back massage, laughing with him, and making love all night I slept the entire flight, as I had intended. ************** I jumped into a cab, everything felt different, and I hadn't been home in a long time. Taking a drive through Atlanta's streets. Buildings and streets are being constructed. He came to a halt in front of the gate to my residence. Assisting with the removal of luggage from the trunk. "Welcome back." Nate murmured, his arms outstretched. I wrapped my arms around him. I'm kissing him and hugging him so hard. "My beautiful soldier has returned home, I've missed you so badly," he added. "I missed you, too," I exclaimed happily. He carried my belongings to our room. "I'm very tired," I admitted. He answered, "Take a shower, then rest, and I'll make dinner for you." "Thank you, Nate," I said. "You're welcome," he stated It's wonderful to be back at home. I took a hot shower and climbed into our bed. I was overcome by sleep. I have the ability to control my dreams.... I can do it. Don't even try to think about it, Lioness. It's merely a side effect. I had a dream that I was stepping inside a really opulent estate. I was walking up a stairwell admiring the chandelier. The magnificent residence astounded me. Guards in the form of golden sculptures. " Baby," he whispered out. My eyes were wide. "Dinner is ready."he said I yawned and took a quick look around. By sweeping me off my feet, he assisted me in getting up. I burst out laughing. He sat me on the seat and let me down. "Oh wow!" I exclaimed, "that smells amazing!" He said, "I prepared lasagna for you." On the platters, serve the delectable dinner. We said the grace before starting to eat. I inquired, "How have you been?" " I'm bored, but I'm hanging in there," he responded. When his phone rang, he flipped it over. "Did Cathy win the election?" I enquired. "She lost and went to court to ask for a recount," he explained. "Poor lady, she had big hopes, but it appears the people didn't feel the same way about her," I replied. " Yes, indeed. "Are you returning?" he inquired. "I doubt it, based on the commander's tone." Something else piqued my interest. He answered, "I'll clean the dishes in the morning." "I can do them now so you don't have to worry about doing the dishes in the morning." He appeared to be preoccupied. " Nate," I said. "Yes, I need to get some work done. I'll be in the library if you need me "he stated " Sure," I responded. He dashed out the door. I put the dishes in the dishwasher. His dinners are great since he cooks so skillfully. I'm not sure if I'll ever be returned. I understand why they were forced to return me. It was for the best that I poured the liquid soap onto the sponge and began scrubbing and rinsing the plates and wine glasses. I finished in about five minutes and cleaned my hands. Before turning out the lights, I scrubbed the sink and double-checked that all the faucets were shut and the oven was turned off. I walked to the study in the hopes of telling Nate I was finished with the dishes and inviting him to join me in bed. "No, you're not getting it. It isn't that simple. Everything has changed at this point "He spoke in hushed tones. This seems to be a unique situation. Nate was not the same person I knew before I went to Afghanistan. He became aware of my presence and abruptly ended the call. "Hey, I'm finished, are you going to bed?" I enquired. " Just a bit, and I'll be there in a minute." he stated I put on my lace nightgown and went to bed. It's wonderful to be back at home. Right now, I'd be thinking about how I'd wake up at the base. If I'm lucky, I'll wake up alive. Any day could have been my last... particularly that fateful day. I consider myself fortunate to have survived, but I will always bear the guilt that others, like me, did not. Others, like me... my colleagues It aches a lot. Nate cried out, " Lioness." "Yes," I responded. His phone rang once more. He stated, "I need to pick this." I smiled and nodded. I entered the bed fatigued and drained, slipping back to sleep.
