Chapter 9: Back to Camp The rain held off as they started down the mountains. The ground was slippery underfoot from the previous day’s showers and Jones watched anxiously as the thunderheads built up to the south. The rains were undoubtedly coming and they’d be lucky to get home before the monsoon broke. She’d come to think of their temporary camp as home as she did any place they pitched the tents for more than a few days. She wondered if it would be worth staying put for a while in the same place. Usually, this far up in the mountains between Srinagar and Ladakh the rains weren’t as persistent as further south. Certainly not as heavy.
