9 PUZZLING EVIDENCE The layout of the holiday let was basic. A central passage led through to the back with rooms to either side. The first two were bedrooms. Then an internal living and dining room – simply furnished – and a kitchen and bathroom with windows looking north. It wasn’t the sort of indoor space inhabitants would be inclined to spend a lot of time in. Clarissa had never been fond of windowless rooms. At least there were fresh towels and toiletries in the bathroom. Clarissa showered first. She was quick, thinking of the hamlet’s water supply or lack thereof, and she had never been one to luxuriate in bathrooms.
