Desi had never felt more exhausted in her life. The day had been long, filled with patients who needed her care and attention, and though she had learned to smile through the exhaustion, there was a part of her that longed for a moment to catch her breath. As she wiped her forehead with the back of her hand, she looked around the small clinic where she now worked. It was her evening shift, and Desi was sitting at a worn-out table in the break room, chatting with her boss, Evelyn, who was also her neighbor.
