Chapter 4

2250 Words
Lisa's POV When I got home I immediately checked the time because detention had taken up most of my time, I was supposed to spend getting ready. It was already 5:32pm. I took a quick shower. When I was done I spent time going through my regular clothes and settled on an over-worn plain red top and a pair of washed jeans. I checked the time and it was already 6:07. Time really flies fast. I quickly put on my Toms and headed towards the living room. My mom was not home so no one could have answered the door bell besides, I didn't hear it ring. 'Was he late?' I wondered After sitting down and waiting for 15 minutes I decided to call him and ask him where he was but when I unlocked my phone I saw a message from him saying: Hey, I'm really sorry but I can't make it. Something important came up. I promise I'll make it up to you. ?But, I didn't want you to dress up for nothing so I sent Trevor. I hope you have an amazing time. So he was really giving free points to Trevor or maybe they agreed to join forces to beat Tristan and split the cash Hmph! But knowing those boys, I don't think they would ever want to share with someone. They would all want the money for themselves I heard the beep of my phone, I checked my phone and saw One message from Hudson 'What again?' I murmured to myself as I opened his message **Sorry, I meant Tristan As if it was planned, I heard a knock on the door immediately after I read the message. I was already walking towards the door to open it when I remembered that I had lied about my address. If I answer him now he would figure out that I had lied but if I don't answer he would think Trevor got the address wrong I decided that I wouldn't answer I'll just pretend like no one was at home, but why do I care so much about what he thinks I didn't care about what Trevor thought If I wanted to win this game I must not fall in love with 'any' of them which included Tristan I reassured myself and went over to open the door "Hi", I said like I did not just let him knock for about 2 minutes "Hey, are you ready to go?" he asked, not mentioning anything about me lying about my address "Yeah, let me just grab my coat" I replied I got my coat and locked the door knowing my mom had a spare key. I sent her a message telling her that I'd be home late so she would not get worried I don't know, Tristan not saying anything about me lying to him made me feel more embarrassed and the awkward car ride did not help my situation. I was even scared of breathing considering the fact that he would hear it because everywhere was so quiet you could only hear the sound of the engine and not-so-frequent car horns. I was very happy when we finally made it to the mall. We went inside and headed straight to the movie theatre. When we got there, Tristan went to get our popcorns and drinks. We located the movie room we were in and out seat numbers "Here" he said patting a spot next to him. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't realize he had already taken his seat I sat down beside him and it didn't take long before the movie started I had no idea what we where watching so I leaned in and whispered "What movie are we watching?" "The Tomb" he replied The name of the movie didn't sit right with me, 20 minutes into the movie and I was shouting like a kid, people around me kept on giving me murderous looks but I couldn't care less about what they thought I hated horror movies! I was covering my eyes with the sleeves of my coat but the sound was even scary "Should we leave? You are embarrassing me" Tristan whispered Ouch? Wow, I couldn't believe him. Of course I wanted to leave but all he cared about was the fact that I was embarrassing him "Yea, sure" I said keeping my thoughts to myself We tried as much as possible not to make a noise as we made our way out. We left the movie early so it was just evening "Let's go, I'll drop you home" he said as we walked out of the theatre "Don't worry, I want to get something before I head home. You can go" I needed to avoid him "What do you want to get? No worries, I can wait" Now he's acting all nice I had to set my plan in motion. I knew that he actually wanted to win the bet. If not for the money, it was the the bragging rights and it'd largen his ego I don't know why he wasn't doing anything "Or you can just follow me" I continued "Okay" he said sounding bored and like he had better things to do "I never want to go through the feeling of loosing to your mates" I said out of nowhere trying to make it seem like I picked it randomly as we walked down towards the main mall "What do you mean?" he asked "I once lost to my friends in a game. They made me feel like a loser and that's part of the reason why I wore contacts" I finally answered his question of the game we played during detention He would be a fool if he fell for my lie. The story I was making up wasn't entirely fake but at the same time not really true. "What if it's not a game? What about something like a bet?" he asked with a subtle look "Game or bet, they both sound the same to me" I said with a slight shrug "What if it's not right to play the game you are playing?" he asked "It doesn't really matter, in the end people don't ask about the game you played, they ask 'bout who won the game" He nodded Mission in progress When we got to the mall I went straight to a grocery shop to do some grocery shopping, after picking some things and walking around for some time, I decided that I was done and told Tristan we could go and checkout "Wait, I have stuff I want to get" Tristan said dumbly I looked up at him with disbelief "Are you serious?? We have been here for about an hour and when I finally decide to go you suddenly want to get something! Are you sure you are fine because I don't think so" I said in frustration. If i could pull my hair out, I'm sure I'd have He just looked at me shocked about my outburst "Don't worry, let's just go I'll tell someone to get it" he mumbled Tristan paid and carried all my grocery bags to his car When he got in, he didn't start the car immediately. He looked as if he was thinking about something. After some time he finally spoke "You know we didn't end up watching the movie and it's still kind of early to call it a day. Why don't we get something to eat before heading home?" he asked as if a bit unsure of himself "Sure" What could possibly go wrong? I guess he has made up his mind to go through with the bet. But, why wasn't I happy? 'Isn't this is what I wanted?' I pondered He drove us to what looked like an amusement park. He dropped me off somewhere and told me to wait for him while he found a place to park. After sometime I saw him walking up to me. Finally! "Sorry" he said with a guilty look "It's fine" I totally lied We went over to a fast food stand that had a bright red sign saying open "24 ho" The remaining letters were hanging at the side without any red light that the others had I got fries and a strawberry milkshake with extra whipped cream while Tristan got a big Mac and chocolate milkshake. We walked around for sometime before we found a bench and sat down to eat in silence There where a lot of rides but most of them where already closed. When I was done eating I decided to walk around the rides "Oh my gosh" I yelled "Tristan you need to see this" I said with excitement I heard footsteps and the crunching of dried leaves and soon enough his voice "What?" he asked "Look! the Ferris wheel! We can ride it, it's still open" I said with pleading eyes "No" he said with a sharp tone and a deadpan look "Please, I've never been on one, it'll be awesome if you do this with me. I mean any girl would like a man that takes her on a Ferris wheel" I said mentally giggling at how stupid that sounds "Fine" he rolled his eyes "Yes!" I jumped with glee We paid for the tickets...well he paid for it And we got on, it was about to start moving when I noticed Tristan's hands trembling "Are you okay?" I gave him a quizzical look "I'm fine" he grumbled "Come on it's kinda of obvious. You are not, you can tell me" I urged "I am afraid of heights" he said barely above a whisper, I had to strain my ears to hear him Wow, who would have known that he of all people would be afraid of heights. I was shocked The ride started moving, I looked down at Tristan's hand and he was still trembling I held his hand and interlocked our fingers "Don't look down" I said "Just look at how beautiful the sky is, focus on that" That's what my dad always told me when I was a child and I got scared. I clearly remember him holding my hands and that's the painful thing, I remember him. I got rid of the negative thoughts and focused on the breathtaking view. 'It was kind of dark which made the city look so beautiful from up here with all the lights and everything' I thought with a sigh I wish I could wake up to a view like this everyday. I looked at Tristan and noticed his hands weren't shaking anymore. I was removing my hands when he grabbed my hands and pulled me close to him his other hands went around my waist I was so shocked but instead of moving away I just stayed in that position. My face was buried in his chest and he smelled so nice I wonder what he tastes like? I thought to myself Wait... what?? no no no no no I scolded myself throughout the remaining ride reminding myself of the consequences When the ride was over Tristan let me go. I missed the warmth that came with the hug "I should probably take you home now" he said "Yeah, you should" I replied, a bit glum The car drive back home was not so awkward This time Deja Vu by Olivia Rodrigo was playing on the radio which lessened the tension in the atmosphere Finally, I saw the old and familiar door of my house "What a night" I sighed Who would have known that I would go on a... I don't know what to call it with Tristan I turned to him and said "Thank you, I had fun tonight" "Yeah, me too, what are you doing during the weekend? We could hangout again" he asked "Sorry, I have a lot of work I have to do but If I get them done in time I'll give you a text" "Okay, let me walk you to the door" "That won't be necessary" I said opening the door I was surprised when Tristan stepped out with me "Umm, just to make sure that you are safe" he stuttered "The last thing I want is being framed for kidnapping you just because you where with me last" he completed This guy only cares about himself. What a selfish i***t! I climbed up the porch and looked down at him. Hme wasn't standing on the porch which made me look taller I really didn't want the night to end but every good thing must come to an end "Thanks again" I said staring at him My eyes fell on those pink lips and the next thing I knew our lips where inches apart, our noses were already touching, I was about to close the gap when my mom shouted from inside "Lisa, is that you? Who are you talking to" she yelled I immediately backed away "Umm, I should go in now" I said rushing my words "Bye" he said I went inside quickly and slammed the door shut. I leaned against the door and touched my lips and wondered how it would have felt with his lips on mine I really shouldn't think about this I reminded myself, play along but don't fall in love I guess that's going to be the quote I'll be hearing in my head for a long long time
