**Ian's POV**
"Wow." Was that all I could say? I have heard stories of others finding their Mates. I had no idea that it was this intense. I am glad that Arianna could feel it as well. I knew that humans don't feel the Mate bond like other Wolves.
"I don't think we can blame the carpet for that one." I looked up from my hand to see Arianna looking at her own hand. "What do you think it is?" How I went about this was going to be difficult. Normally, when mates find each other, that's it. They are inseparable. However, with Arianna being human, we are going to have to take things quite slow. My guess is she probably doesn't even know that werewolves are real. That is going to be a big hurdle.
I leaned back in my chair and had a look at her. She was beautiful sitting across from me. Her shoulder length blonde hair, and her highlights dancing in the shinning sun. She looked to be close to 5'9", which would sit well at my height of 6'2". Her frame was also perfect. She was a little fuller than those models you see on i********:.
Arianna cleared her throat. She must have caught me staring, since I didn't answer her question.
"I am not sure." I paused a moment. "Arianna, do you think we could have dinner?" I didn't want to push her too quickly, but it was going to be difficult to stay away from her now that I confirmed she was my mate.
We shouldn't leave her side at all. Dante, my wolf, finally spoke up. He had been quiet all morning. Yesterday, after we felt the first spark, he wouldn't shut up.
We have to be smart about this. I quickly told him. If we come on strong we are going to scare her away. And then where will we be? I could feel Dante shaking his head at me. I was still waiting for Arianna to answer my question on dinner during my quick conversation with Dante.
"Please call me Ari. My father is the only one that really uses my full name." She smiled up at me. I didn't think she could be anymore beautiful, I was wrong. Her smile hit me hard. I had to make sure that I made her do that quite often.
"Ari, are you up for dinner with me tonight?" I leaned forward in my seat without realizing it. Holding my breath for her answer.
"I dont see why not." She said as she grabbed her coffee off the table and took a drink. I could still feel the spark that had run through my arm at our touch. I'm sure Ari could still feel it as well.
"I should be getting back to the book store. I don't want to leave my dad under that pile of books for too long, I might lose him." Ari stood up from the table. Grabbing her drink as she did so. I followed her motions and grabbed mine. Letting her pass by me on her way around the table to start heading back down the side walk. It was too soon and we were back at the book store.
Ari turned around before we got fully to the door. "Thank you for the coffee. I could give you my number if it would make it easier to get in touch for dinner." Ari quickly threw her number out, which I threw into my phone and looked back at her.
"I will text you what time. I'll see you soon Ari." I gave her my most genuine smile before she returned it and went inside the book store.
I could hear Dante in the back of my mind whinnying about the fact that we didn't follow our mate. Patience is not one of your strong suits. I told him.
Like you are any better. Dante snapped back. This was going to be a long process. I sighed to myself, but then quickly smiled. Who would have thought that I would find my mate in the small town that my uncle Nicholas happened to live in? I walked a couple of stores down to where I parked my Black Silverado Truck.
Hopping in, I checked my phone and noticed that I had 3 missed calls from my mother. I will call her back once I am back at my Uncle Nick's house. I turned over my truck and pulled out of my parking spot. I made sure that I got one more glance at the book store before I passed. Hoping to catch a glimpse of Ari in the window. I wasn't disappointed. Her head was bent near the register. She was looking at her phone. I turned my attention back to the road as I made my way through town and back onto Oak Street.
"So how did it go?" Uncle Nick asked as soon as I walked through the front door. He was sitting in the front living room area off to the left of the foyer. I eyed the stairs to the right that led up to the second floor with all the bedrooms. I knew he wouldn't leave me alone though until he got the update.
"She is my mate." If felt nice to say it out loud since I had to hold Dante back from saying it in front of Arianna earlier.
"But is she human?" Uncle Nick asked as he put down whatever book it was he was reading.
"Yeah she is. I am going to have to tread lightly." I am not quite sure how I was going to do that. I was going to call my mom back and hope that she had some insight into how to go about this.
"Well, good luck with that," Uncle Nick said as he picked his book back up and began reading again. He was in his mid 50s. A few years younger than my mother. He has the same chocolate brown hair as my mother. Most of my features I got from my father, so Uncle Nick and I did not look too much alike. We didn't have the closest relationship either. I was close with my mother though. Luna Theresa.
I turned myself around and headed for the stairs that led to the room I was occupying during my stay. Uncle Nick's house was more on the modern side. It made me miss the contemporary style that my mom preferred to decorate the pack house in. When I got to my room, I made sure to close the door for some privacy as I gave my mother a call. She answered on the second ring.
"You found your MATE?!?" I had to quickly pull my cell phone away from my ear in order to save my ear drums.
"Yes I did. She's a human. Her name is Arianna". I waited for my mother to respond while I let that sink for her.
"So..... That is going to be a little bit of a challenge," she said slowly. She must be deep in thought.
"Any pointers you can give me?" I asked her, sitting on the edge of my king-sized bed. I ran my hand through my hair. It stopped at the back of my neck.
"Well, you are going to have to take it slow and woo her before you can let her know what you are." I had already figured as much. "Just take one thing at a time. You'll know when the time is right to unwrap that bit of news for her."
I sighed into the phone. "I'll do whatever is necessary to make sure that I don't scare her off."
"On a lighter note. Your brother has completed his training." My mother liked to give updates when she could. My half brother Zeke. We did not have the same father. However, since my step-father, Alpha Marcus, recognized me as his son when he and my mother mated, I was next in line for Alpha. As soon as I found my mate, My Luna. That was going to be a whole other conversation to have with Ari.
"Zeke scored almost as high as you did when you finished your training." She had a slight smile on her lips. I could tell by her tone.
"Almost." I responded. I loved my brother. I was 7 years older and he definitely tried hard to follow in my footsteps. I reminded him at every turn though that he was the second born son. It was an ongoing tease between the two of us.
"Well, I need to get back to helping the Omegas set up the dining room for lunch. Let me know how it goes with Arianna. Bye hun." I respected my mother as the current Luna. She never asked anyone to do something that she wasn't willing to do herself. Even setting up lunch for the pack.
I looked down at my phone and started a conversation with Ari. "Hi Ari, This is Ian. How does 6:30pm sound for dinner tonight?" Send.
It didn't take long to get a response. I had extended my arm to set the phone down on the side table. When I heard the chime of a text I snatched the phone back.
You are acting like a lovesick teenager. Dante teased in the back of my mind. You are just jealous. I clipped back.
I looked down at my phone and at Ari's response. "6:30 is perfect." She then gave me the address to her apartment in order to pick her up. It is a small town. I assumed it wouldn't take longer than 10 minutes to get there. Now to figure out exactly where we were going to go to eat.
