Sick

**Arianna POV** "How much was in those drinks?" I asked Ian. "Only one shot. Why?" "My face is really warm." Ian touched his hand to my head. His brow furrowed. "You a warm. Lets get you back inside." Once we were back in the kitchen, Ian pulled a first aid kit out from the pantry. He pulled it open and took out a forehead thermometer, scanned my forehead and shook his head slightly. "You have a fever. We should probably get you home. I'll drive since you had some drinks. We can get your car when you are feeling better." I nodded in agreement. "Can you tell your family goodbye for me? If I am sick I don't want to be around them and I chance getting them sick as well." As Ian turned to put the first aid back, the corner of his mouth turned up. I wonder what was funny about my comment. "I will be right back." Ian walked out into the entryway. He was back in about 5 minutes. "Let's get you home." He motioned for me to follow him. We went down the small hall from the dining room and through a door that led out into the garage. Well garages. There were many cars parked. Ian opened my door and I got in his truck. We pulled out and started our way back to my apartment. While we were driving, my stomach did a flip flop. I put my hand to my mouth quickly. Oh no please no. Not right now. Please wait until I get home. I pleaded with my body. I did not want to have to tell Ian to pull over so I could throw up. I moved my hand to roll the window down slightly to get some cold air. That did not help in the least. I think it actually might have made it worse. "Can you please pull over?" I asked. Ian instantly pulled his truck to the side of the road. I threw open the door and wandered into the field that we had stopped at. I emptied everything that was in my stomach on that field. I made the mistake of looking down and threw up a second time. I closed my eyes tightly and gave my stomach a minute to calm down. Once I felt like I could keep myself together, I walked back over to Ian's truck and got back in. I didn't say anything. I was too embarrassed. Ian started the truck back up and we finished our journey to my apartment. When we got there, Ian insisted on helping me up to my door. Once inside my apartment, he helped me to my room and helped me to bed. I laid down and kicked my shoes off. Pulled the blankets up to my chin and closed my eyes for a second. "Can I get you water or anything?" Ian asked. I nodded. He slipped out of my room and went to my kitchen. I could hear him opening cupboards until he found the cups. It didn't take him long to come back in with a cup of water and a sleeve of crackers. "Hopefully the crackers can help settle your stomach. Ian laid the items on my night stand and sat on the edge of the bed. He put his hand on my forehead. "You aren't as warm anymore. I think something just didn't agree with you. Or a mixture of food and drink maybe." "Thank you for helping me home and taking care of me. I am so embarrassed I had to have you pull over though." I sat up in my bed so I could get a drink and eat a couple of crackers. I did already feel better. "Can I ask you a question?" "Sure." Ian had taken one of my hands and was making small circles with his fingertips. "Do you think that your family liked me? It seemed like they were looking for something in my answers to their questions." "I think they loved you," Ian said with a smile. "I hope so." I said without thinking. "Planning on letting me stick around?" Ian teased. "I might." I teased back. "I am sorry that my family asked about your high school relationship. That was crossing a line." He furrowed his brow again. I took my other hand and rubbed his brow to get the wrinkles out. He chuckled at my actions. "I don't like it when you furrow your brow," I said. "It is alright. I just did not want to talk about it since it ended with my most embarrassing memory in my life." "What happened if you don't mind me asking?" I took a quick breath. "Well, he wanted to do more with me and I wasn't comfortable with that, so one day in the lunch room we were sitting at our normal table and he was trying to make out. I told him no. That made him angry and rather than drop it he reached for me in a groping way. When I got angry and pushed him away from me, he shouted for everyone to hear that he couldn't take it anymore, that he couldn't date such a prude. He said that I was probably a lesbian, since I was such a prude to him. I guess he thought he was god's gift to women or something." After I finished telling my story to Ian, I looked up at his face. What I saw startled me to my core. His eyes were black. Black with little flecks of light in them. But pure black. I instantly dropped his hand and moved closer to my headboard. Ian jumped from the bed quickly and walked to the other side of the room with my small writing desk. He rubbed his head for a moment. I wasn't sure what to do. I was freaked out. I have never seen someone's eyes do that. I started to question if what I saw was real. "What just happened?" I asked Ian. He still stood with his back turned from me. I didn't move a muscle. "I'm so sorry I scared you." Ian said, turning around. His eyes were back to his beautiful emerald. "Your eyes just turned black. Like tar black." He needed to explain before I really lost it. Ian sighed very loudly. He looked up at the ceiling and closed his eyes. When he opened them, I was still staring. Waiting for a response. "I want to tell you. But I don't want to lose you." What in the world did that mean? I just kept staring at him. At this point, there was no going back. He needed to explain himself. Whatever that was, I needed to know. "I am not sure if this is something that can just be swept under the rug," I told him. "Can you keep an open mind?" Not what I thought he was going to say. I nodded slowly. Ian took another long breath. He finally looked me dead in the eye and said, "I am a werewolf." If I hadn't been sitting on my bed I would have fallen down. Werewolf? Like a dog? Those things are made believe. From children's stories of little girls in red hoods running in the forest. I waited for a moment for Ian to say he was kidding. It never came. "A werewolf?" I repeated slowly. "Yes. They are real. My mother, stepfather and uncle are too." Oh great I was having dinner with a pack of wolves. "I am sorry Ian. You can see why this is hard for me to believe." "I do understand. I am so sorry. This is not how I wanted to tell you." "Well, cats out of the bag. Or should I say wolfs out of the den?" Great, I was losing it. Sarcasm is my coping mechanism. "Do you want me to leave?" Ian sounded defeated. How could I come to terms with this? Yes, I read fantasy books. Never in a million years did I think it was actually real. "Are vampires real too?" My question threw Ian off. The pure surprise on his face almost made me laugh. "Yes." Was all that came out of his mouth. "Huh." My whole world has been a lie. "You are surprisingly calmer than I thought you would be." He said slowly. "Jokes on you. I am losing it on the inside."
