Fourteen

The tracker that Yohai had put in Auros’s phone suddenly stopped transmitting, as though it had simply disappeared, but that was impossible.  The tracker she’d been using was beyond state of the art, designed with technology that had been lost for millenia and far more advanced than anything that currently existed.  The tracking technology existed now in the very molecular structure of the phone itself, even if it were destroyed, blasted to bits, it should still tell her where it is...but this...this was different. “You said you knew where he was,” Luna said, angrily. Right after that massive shockwave of energy, his energy had disappeared as well, and then the tracker went dark.  Looking around the alleyway, where it had last sent a signal from, Yohai felt a minor rush of panic. Her voice wavering and quiet, she said to the darkness, “Auros?” Luna pushed Yohai to the side, angrily looking for him, any sign of him.  “Where is he, Yohai!  I know you know where he is!” The panic began to grow inside of her, pain and discomfort racing through her stomach and up her spine, and she fell to her knees. “He’s not dead...he’s not dead...he’s not dead…” The confidence and anger she’d felt earlier rapidly dissipating in the silence of the night. There were signs of a fight, if it could be called that, but no sign of who had won or lost...just...an empty space where he should be. Something flickered in the darkness, something that looked almost like glimmering black fire...but after a split second of trying to find it again, she lost it and it was just darkened alleyway. Luna sighed, exasperated, and walked away from the alley behind the Sundover Medical Building, disgusted that she’d let this girl bring her here where he’d tried to kill himself, and for what. Nothing. She’d come to this place for absolutely nothing. Yohai stood and followed Luna, unsure of not only her future...but the future of Covnan as well.  Something was coming...something massive and dangerous that would change everything...and the guardian...her Auros...was...gone. From the alleyway, a pair of red eyes blinked into existence and a woman’s voice giggled out in the silence, just quiet enough to escape notice and then they were gone.
