“When will you be back?” Ruby asked in a subdued voice, staring at me, looking so vulnerable in the oversized sweater she had on.
We were saying our goodbyes, and I was about to leave for the Crescent Hills.
After making hasty arrangements, we’d decided that Miles and some pack enforcers would accompany me. But I felt uncomfortable leaving the pack with just Millie around.
I hoped Max would arrive soon enough to ease some of Millie’s burden.
Then, it had been time to say my goodbyes to the pups.
I assured them while I was all jumbled up and confused inside.
