Chapter 2

1976 Words
I woke up feeling confused and tired. I quickly noticed I was lying in a strange room. It was huge and beautiful, with gold carvings decorating the door and the bed frame. Was I dead? I tried to get up and felt a sharp pain at the side of my head. I raised my hand to feel my head and that was when I noticed that I had been chained to the bedpost. I felt panic rush into me, I struggled to pull on the chain, but it wouldn’t come off. I looked around for anything I could use to free myself but everything was far from me, it was a really large bed and my right hand was chained to the bedpost at the head of the bed. The chain was long enough to allow me to stand on the bed, so I quickly tried to get up and use my weight to pull against the chain. It was then that I noticed that I was dressed in a white long nightgown. Someone had changed me in my sleep! I panicked then, furiously yanking at the chain. But that only hurt my wrist as the chain kept scraping my skin. “ Stop that! You'll only hurt yourself”… a voice scolded me. I screamed in shock and fell back on the bed. I didn’t hear anyone enter the room. An old woman holding a tray of food stood at the door with a frown on her face. She looked harmless, so I calmly sat back on the bed, but I kept my eyes on her, watching her every move for any sign of danger. She dropped the tray of food on the bed gently, but I didn’t even glance at it, my eyes were on her face. “Where am I?” I asked. “The great kingdom of Grandor.” She answered with pride. “The kingdom of what?” Growing up in my village, we had heard rumors of a place called Grandor. It was said that it was a prosperous land filled with treasures and gold but giant dangerous creatures also lived there. Surely this was some sort of trick. Some of the villagers must have gathered together and decided to play a cruel trick to scare me. I laughed aloud. “The kingdom of Grandor?” I laughed again. “Really? Where are the giants huh? Did Jake put you up to this, Or maybe Leila?” The lady frowned at me”. “I don’t know any Leila or Jake. But if you want to have any chance of surviving, I would suggest you keep your strength for when the master comes” . She said, pushing the tray towards me. “The master? Who is the master?” I quizzed. “The master is our Supreme Grand lord Arthur, guardian and protector of the kingdom” Her voice was full of pride at his description. It was very clear that she thought very highly of this master of hers. “It was he who found you that night at Elron forest.” Suddenly the memory of that night came rushing back to me. -Me finding out my mate was Jake. -Jake and Leila humiliating me in front of everyone. -Me running into the woods. -The creature chasing me. -Me falling unconscious. “Eat up, the master has been waiting for days to interrogate you.” “Waiting for days? How long have I been here?” “For about three days now.” Three days!!!??? “Three days?.... w-wh- what happened?” “ Oh dear you don’t remember?” She looked at me sympathetically. “You took a nasty fall and hit your head pretty badly. You were very lucky the master was there to save you.” He saved me? From that beast? “Since you are now awake and seem to be recovering nicely, I will go and inform the master that you will be ready for dinner.” I nodded slowly... I was very curious to meet this master of hers that had rescued me in the woods and then chained me up to a bed. “Okay then...I will be back to prepare you in an hour.” she said before leaving and closing the door. All this information was overwhelming, who was the master? If he had saved me, why did he chain me up? Was I really in the Grandor kingdom? What was that creature that tried to attack me? All of a sudden my tummy started growling furiously. Oh yea.... I hadn’t eaten in days. I pulled my tray and discovered a delicious array of fruits, vegetables, Meat and dessert. I had never seen so much delicious food in one place before. Was this really all mine? I quickly dug in before anyone tried to come and take it. The woman truly returned in exactly an hour later. She later introduced herself to me properly, She told me her name was Sarah and she was assigned to care for me while I was here. She came back with a lot of dresses and jewelry asking me to choose whatever one I wanted. I had never had the choice of clothes before, and I certainly had never worn a piece of gold in my life before. She seemed shocked when I told her that. “Even the lowest servants of Grandor can afford gold” she told me, then proceeded to dress me up in the prettiest gown I had ever worn. I felt like royalty ....Until they chained me up again. I was led down several hallways so wide and large that I thought I could fit my whole village inside it. Sarah explained to me that the Grand lord’s family had laid the foundation of the land and the palace. But it was the Grand lord who had spent years and years building it up from scratch into the magnificence that it now was. And I hadn't even seen half of it yet. I started to picture the Grand lord as a huge grim old man covered in jewelry and gray hairs. It seemed like he had done so much in his long life That was why I wasn’t prepared for what I saw when I met the Grand Supreme Lord Arthur. He was not at all what I expected him to be. First, there was not a single gray hair in sight. Secondly he was dressed Elegantly but casually. He was tall, very tall and he was built in a way that made me want to climb him. His dark curly hair looked full and soft, long enough for half of it to be tied in a ponytail emphasizing his beautiful face. He had the strong jaw of a man that was used to being obeyed. And his dark eyes felt intense and focused, like he could see into my soul. He took his seat at the head of the long dining table and motioned for me to sit by his side. I slowly took my seat. Still cautious of what he wanted to do with me. He silently offered me a plate of food, then patiently watched me eat while he studied my face. When I was done, he finally spoke. “What is your name, girl?” His voice was thick and dark, reminding me of rich honey. “Erica..” I answered. “Erica....” he whispered to himself. “ Your age?” “I just turned 18”. He frowned at that. “Hmmmm.... are you mated?” I shook my head no, I didn’t want to have to remember the hurt and embarrassment of Jake's rejection. “He...he..uh... he rejected me” I muttered avoiding his eyes. I kept my gaze on one of his large hands resting on the table.... I watched his hand turn into a tight fist at my response. He was quiet for a minute. “ Your parents?” “ .... I lost them when I was four. My uncle took me in.” That was another memory I didn’t want to think about. “What are you doing in Grandor?” I looked up sharply at him. “Me? But you’re the one who brought me here...” He was watching me with an unreadable expression. “No, I found you in the woods near the forest of Elron, but you had already crossed into our territory. He stated. “I had ? I didn’t realize, I was just.....” “How did you cross in?” He asked, his eyes narrowing. “...... I...I don’t know... I think I walked?” He scoffed at that. “One does not simply just walk into Grandor...” I looked at him quizzically. But that was exactly what I did, I simply walked. “There are magical wards, all around the boundaries of Grandor..... you can’t see it, and you certainly can’t cross it.... they alert me when intruders come near it, and they destroy anything that touches it.” He explained. “But you,...you didn’t just near it, you didn’t just touch it, you crossed it. So again I ask you, how did you cross?” “I.... uh.....” I stammered, searching for an answer that he would believe. “Are you a spy?” “What? No!” “Which of my enemies sent you?”. “N—-no one!” His voice turned dangerously low. “So you trespassed my territory of your own accord?” “please believe me, I—I didn’t know!” “Do you know the punishment for trespassers?” Oh goddess he’s going to kill me? “Please.... I swear I didn’t know..... I leave and never come back...” “Now why would I let you do that?” His eyes darkened even more and he leaned closer to me. “You came into my lands, you’ve seen my palace... eaten my food. I can’t possibly let you leave....” “Pleasee!” I whispered. My eyes filled up with tears. “You know too much....” he continued as if he couldn’t even hear me begging. “Please I don’t want to die.” I cried. “Then you shouldn’t have come here” “Please just let me go home....” the tears spilled uncontrollably now. He just watched me with an unreadable expression. “Alright. I won’t kill you.....” My eyes widened with grateful shock. “Thank you oh thank you so much”. I was ready to drop to my knees in gratitude. “I promise I’ll leave first thing in the morning, you won’t even know I was here.” “Who said anything about you leaving?” he’s voice went low and menacing. “wh—what but you said——“ “I said I wouldn’t kill you.... but you’re not leaving either, you’re staying right here..” “That’s right, since you refuse to confess who sent you to spy on my lands, I will keep you as my slave. And when the time is right, I’ll use you to draw out whoever your master is, or until you get frustrated enough to confess willingly “ “But what if I’m telling you the truth?” I screamed terrified at what he was saying. “Well then”, he leaned back casually on his seat, “only time will tell.” “For how long... how long before you believe me?..” my head was reeling with pain now. “How long? Until I say so , maybe until you die...“ I gasped. “Don’t you get it princess?” “I own you now!.” He said, his eyes suddenly glowing red.
