“Alpha, please come back!” I spoke louder, trying to reach his lucidity.
The beast emitted a sound akin to a sinister laugh. “The Alpha isn't here!”
He stopped pacing back and forth, raising his predatory eyes in my direction, and advancing toward me.
I leaped to the side, transforming back into human form, aware that I now smelled even more like prey. The beast shook its head from side to side, thirsting for my flesh. My transformation seemed to have provoked it into attacking me.
I raised my hands as he charged towards me, stopping his head in my hands. A light warmed the palms of my hands, keeping the beast paralyzed and growling in frustration.
