Two weeks later
I glanced over at Dahlia as she let out a rather large yawn from her mouth as she began to stretch. She already looked exhausted and this place was just opening up. Glancing down I saw the thin material of her black dress inching up and groaned rolling my eyes at the sight, I did not need to see that. I didn’t care if it got her better tips or not, she was my best friend and seeing that s**t made me hella annoyed at times.
Looking back over at her she walked past my son, Pyro, swinging her hips and bumping into him with a playful grin on her face. He stuck his tongue out at her before muttering something to her that I couldn’t hear. She looked almost shocked and then grinned at him shrugging her shoulders as she said something back.
Those two, got along so well, it made me happy honestly. I was always scared she was going to have an issue with my kids or that they wouldn’t like her. Prior to this club we’d been co-workers at the ISOA and she was my partner in crime, literally. Everything we did was together, she was my personal partner on missions and since we’d met we were inseparable.
It was funny because it seemed like at times it almost pissed off my brother, Jude. He’d been mated back then to the mother of his son, Jeremy. She was also one of my good friends so I had to stay out of that mess when they split. But he’d see us together and the way we acted and it was like it set something off in him. Though when he was just talking to her he was always nothing but smiles and happiness.
We were younger then though and I wasn’t even sure she remembered who the f**k my brother was. No doubt with what little interaction they did have she probably forgot him for the most part. I missed him but that was a topic for another day.
Her and Pyro kept talking for just another minute before she finally walked away from him and came out towards where I was, talking to a customer as he called her over and getting him a beer. I watched as she scanned the bar, looking towards where I was and almost pouting. Interesting. I raised a brow at her and she started cleaning instead. Was she bored?
It wasn’t like I was in a rush or anything really, but seeing her like this was different. Usually she never shut up and she was all over the place but seeing her over here cleaning the bar, washing glasses and sorting bottles as she made her way over? Something had to be on her mind.
My own thoughts began to drift though, since that damn night I was still thinking about her almost constantly. Zen. She was like a sickness I couldn’t get over and it was royally pissing me the f**k off at this point.
If I wasn’t actively distracting myself I’d randomly think of her and then I’d get stuck in almost a loop just remembering that night. The way her voice sounded, the moans, the way her body felt. The way she felt in general. f**k I was like some stupid addict with no supply.
I didn’t know her though, at all. As it were I broke one of my biggest rules by bringing her back to my place too and having all of this happen. I never brought women home for a reason, if anything I went to their place or the club sufficed for me but nothing else ever because I knew all too well what was going to happen if the kids saw any of them and I was right with her.
Ember and Flare had been trying to find her and I walked by one of their conversations about it one day. Thankfully they couldn’t find anything and I hoped it stayed that way because I wasn’t sure how to explain that my kids stalked someone on their own because they felt that I wasn’t happy enough in life.
But now, here I was, stuck and hung up on the fact that she really hadn’t called me or text me. I really f****d this whole thing up didn’t I?
Wait no, why the f**k did it even matter if I did happen to f**k it up? Again, I didn’t know her, I just knew her name. Yet, I would’ve been lying to myself and anyone around me if I said I didn’t have some sense of sadness and longing at the thought of her never getting back in contact with me again and I hated that. Pyro, looked over right then and caught my eye from the other end of the bar. He gave me a curt nod before going back to work and I nodded back at him.
I had a been a bit hard on my kids though, even I knew that. I was frustrated by the fact that they were all acting like kids instead of the grown ass adults that they actually were. To a fault I understood the twins, those girls, they were the youngest ones and just freshly adults but Pyro? Ashe? They knew so much better than to be as nosey as they were or as enabling of their sisters.
I was also a bit scared of what Zen’s reaction to me having four grown children was going to be too. Wait, no, stop it. Again, why the f**k was I worrying about something like this? She wasn’t even here, she didn’t talk to me, I needed to stop this s**t immediately.
“Dal! Can I get a drink, pronto?”
I looked up at her and saw the way she was looking at me. It was like there was a sadness in her eyes directed at me. If this was how this was all going to be starting for the night, then yeah, this was going to be one long f*****g shift and I didn’t have any excuses for it.
As much as I wanted to snap at her and tell her to stop pitying me with her eyes I didn’t say anything at all. Instead I looked at the patrons slowly coming to the bar. A few elderly men in business suits grabbed beers and disappeared to the strip floor. There was a few younger men sat up at the bar refusing to move as they ordered drinks and watched the latest sports game on the screen and then there were the few strippers passing by in normal clothes so they wouldn’t get harassed. If i kept myself busy looking at all of them and focusing on what they did I’d be fine.
My wolf didn’t like that idea but I really didn’t give a f**k what it liked right now because it was the whole reason I was in this mess to begin with. I wanted to just get a break from it all for five seconds so I could just focus and worry about other things. Like what I was going to do with the kids rooms when they all finally moved the hell out.
