A week later a storm blows in across the lake, rustling leaves and turning dirt paths into mudslides. I hear it from the safety of Travis’s cabin, where we cuddle in front of the TV and listen to the wind and rain as the world rages outside. He holds me close and whispers silly things in my ear which I can’t really hear but they make me snicker all the same. I lean back against him and he holds my wrists, my arms folded against my chest, safe in his arms. After the rain stops, we venture out dressed only in thin boxers and T-shirts.
