Chapter Twenty-Six

“Remind me why I have to do this again?” I stared at my reflection in the mirror… wearing a sky-blue summer dress with a big black ribbon around the waist part, a long straight black wig and a pair of black converse shoes just because I refused to wear stilettos.   “I already told you the whole plan, didn’t I?” Gage sighed.   “You look perfect, Brooke.” Ford complimented me.   I found myself playing dress-up with Gage once again right after our classes ended for the day for he dragged me along and Ford just happens to be in the dorm room.   “I’m setting you up on a date with Hunter this evening as a GIRL in order to find out if he’s really gay or not.” Gage reminded me of how the OPERATION GIRLY BROOKE works.   “But what about the school festival which just so happens to be tonight? I still have to prepare for my performance you know… and I can’t believe the loser gets to strip in public! What’s with that?!” Oh right, the student council president, A.K.A. William Kennedy is behind all this who apparently hates me BIG TIME, how can I forget?   “You’re up on stage at 9 PM anyway so that still leaves you some time to find out Hunter’s real preferences.” Gage winked, teasing me. I bet he’s helping me out on this one because it’s real entertainment for him.   “And what about Xavier? The two of them are always together, remember?” I asked.   “Ford and I will distract him or keep him locked up somewhere where he won’t be able to see some light… whatever works.” So he’s got everything carefully planned out.   “We are?” Ford was probably wondering by now since when he had a part in this with that confused of his. Gage just simply arched his brow.   “Oh right, okay. Anything for Brooke.” Ford smiled.   *HUNTER’S POV*   I sat all alone in a nearby diner called ‘HALIMA’ where a lot of my schoolmates and their girlfriends usually meet up during their free time.   Some random text just told me to come here if I wanted to hook up with some chick and obviously I took the bait. It was now 6:45 which means that I waited for about 30 minutes already.   “Excuse me, are you Hunter?” Some girl tapped me on the shoulder from behind and when I spun around to get a look at her… I froze.   “Uh, um, yeah.” One word to describe her would be: an ANGEL in disguise.   Never in my life have I ever seen such a strikingly beautiful woman for as long as I got to live in this world.   “And you are?” I finally regained my composure after checking her out from head to foot.   She was about to sit down across from me when she said, “Oh, um, toilet?” I just nodded, granting her permission, staring after her figure as she walked away…   *BROOKE’S POV*   Oh crap. I forgot to ask Gage my GIRL name so I quickly went inside the boy’s CR.   “What are you doing, Brooke? I told you to excuse yourself at exactly 7 o’clock, didn’t I?!” Gage pinned me on the wall of the cubicle as soon as I went inside.   “I’m sorry but I told you that I’m not good at acting girly, didn’t I?! How about we switch places?” I said sarcastically as I turned him over, now I was the one pinning him.   “No way. Now get back there if you want to get this over with before your performance in the auditorium.” He pushed me out.   “Okay, so where were we?” I finally sat across Hunter as I got back, forcing a smile at him.   “Your name?” He looked rather eager and nervous at the same time.   “Brooklyn. Pleasure to meet you.” I offered him a handshake which he immediately responded with a kiss on the back of my hand.   “The pleasure is all mine.” He grinned. No hint of any ‘gayness’ factor here.    I unconsciously wiped my hand on my dress under the table because I probably feel weird while flirting with an actual guy in my girly form which is a first for me.   “So…” Was all I could manage to say, hoping to start a proper conversation with him.   “So…” I cannot believe he just copied what I said!   “So…” I said again, tapping my fingers on the table. Luckily, my phone vibrated which meant that I got a text from Gage.   It said: ‘Evidence, Brooke. We need EVIDENCE.’ So not helping at all…   “Are you gay?” I decided to just get straight to the point because the wig is starting to get itchy on me.   “What?! Now why would you say that?” He looked confused.   “Because… I saw this scandal with you in it, making out with a handsome guy in a gay bar.” I complimented myself.   This is so not in the script that Gage made. I was supposed to just grab, kiss and then walk away. Like hell I would just kiss this jock bully out of nowhere.   “Huh? What video?” Playing dumb, I see.   I was about to show him the ‘actual’ video in my phone when I received another text from Gage which says: ‘Try PROVOKING him.’ Okay, now how do I do that?   “Um, you better tell me the truth now unless you’re really gay…” This is such an awkward date.   “I’m not and I’ll prove it with a… kiss!” The next thing I knew, he started leaning in and closing his eyes in just merely a second before he was just an inch away from my lips but my quick reflexes enabled me to grab the glass of water right in front of me and immediately splashed his face with it also causing his shirt to get wet in the process.   “What the?!” He quickly backed away, probably feeling cold.   “Oops. Sorry. Didn’t mean it.” I tried to sound a bit apologetic but failed.   “It’s no big. I work out…” and with that statement, he removed his shirt right inside the freaking diner revealing his six pack of abs causing a lot of people to look our way. Whoa… he’s a jock alright.   Just then, his phone rang…   “Xavier? What’s up? You’re locked up somewhere? Where specifically? Alright, alright, I’ll be there in a sec.” and then he hangs up.   “Sorry babe, but I’ve got to go… let’s continue this some other time.” He started to get up and then another text from Gage arrived: ‘Stop him.’   “Uh, wait. I think I know how you can prove your manliness to me… let’s book a room!” By this time I didn’t exactly know what was coming out of my mouth but I knew that I had to say something fast.   After being silent for a moment, he finally spoke, “You know what? My friend can wait… I know a nearby hotel in this vicinity.” He ran a hand to his hair.   “Okay…?” He smiled then grabbed my hand and as we were heading out of the diner… Jagger comes in, eyeing me rather intensely then the shirtless Hunter and lastly, down to our intertwined hands.   So... now what?
