Amanda packed her son’s clothes in his little box and stuffed the little things she had bought in the time she’d spent there into the bag. Alex sat patiently by the bed throughout, watching her with a confused gaze. She zipped up the bag and its sound echoed in the room with a note of finality. She was leaving, this time for good.
