As tears continued to roll down Mara's face and she sniffed occasionally, Lydia continued to knock until she quit and walked into her room dejectedly. The next day, Mara felt a little better after she had composed the note to be sent to the Lycan kings, hoping they would come to her rescue. She opened her door and found Lydia asleep on a duvet outside her room. She crouched on her level and quietly hauled her in her arms, walked into her room, and placed her on her bed. She covered her with her own duvet. She was about to walk toward the door when she heard her name. "Mara!" She twirled back to find Lydia sitting, yearning and she walked toward her. "You don't need to risk your life for me, Lydia," she pulled her into a hug, "From this moment, I will carry my own cross," she whispere
