The discovery of another hybrid changed everything. Killian asked Lucas to go back to Saint Catherine's to get as much information as he could, the more they knew the better prepared they’d be to help Becs in the future.
Three days after the meeting with the Blackwood elders, Killian was back in the council chambers staring at a stolen Saint Catherine’s records. Lucas stood across from him, having already read the files.
“The files are missing pages.” Lucas said
“They destroyed most of them after Becs escaped”
Killian rubbed his hand across his jaw.
“What all did you find?”
The Beta slid another document across the table.
“Enough”
Killian read it silently, his expression darkened, then his jaw clinched the further down he read. Then he looked at Lucas shocked and whispered.
“No”
Lucas nodded, knowing exactly what part he’d gotten to in the report.
“The Rouge King, He’s the other hybrid”
“Are you sure?”
Lucas nodded.
“The medical center had records dating back decades from what we could find.”
Shadow growled
Danger
“What else?”
Lucas hesitated with the next piece of information. Knowing this would make things far more difficult. Then he slid over an ancient family tree, recovered from the Nightshade ruins. Killian scanned it, then froze. The blood drained from his face.
“No”
Lucas nodded
“Yeah”
Killian stared at one name, unable to believe it.
“The Rogue King is Adrian Nightshade’s half-brother.”
Silence, The Rouge King was Becs’s uncle. The man who murdered her family, destroyed her kingdom and displaced her for seventeen years. He was family.
After their meeting, Killian asked Lucas to continue to dig into the hospital’s secrets. They left the chambers headed towards the training grounds, while they were meeting Becs started her combat training. Killian was going to support Becs, but Lucas was going because according to him. It was too good an opportunity to miss.
As they walked into the training grounds, they could hear Becs and Ethan arguing. Lucas started to laugh and looked at Killian with an ‘I told you so’ look, he just rolled his eyes.
“You are pathetically easy to kill” Ethan said.
“And you are an oversized jerk,” Becs retorted.
It was obvious that while they were insulting each other, they had smiles on their faces. Showing they were enjoying their time together and were just joking around.
The training grounds buzzed with activity, warriors were spread across the field. Killiana and Lucas stood nearby talking with trainers and warriors.
Ethan faced Becs with a wooden training sword.
“Again”
Becs groaned, tried.
“I was shot twice, give me a minute to rest.”
“You were shot two weeks ago.”
“It still counts!”
Before she could prepare herself, Ethan attacked. She was just barely able to block it, the impact rattled her arms.
Luna growled.
Hit him
I’m trying
Well try harder.
Ethan knocked her backward. Again. The Gamma smirked, entirely too proud with himself.
“You’re thinking too much”
Becs glared
“I hate you.”
“No you don’t”
Warriors close to them started to laugh. Traitors, every single one of them. Something inside her snapped. Not in anger, instinct. For the first time she stopped thinking, stopped planning, and stopped hesitating. She moved. Fast, much faster than before.
Ethan’s eyes widened. Becs ducked beneath his swing, spun. And drove her fist directly into his jaw.
CRACK
The Gamma staggered backward, the training sword flew from his hand. The entire field went silent, Ethan touched his mouth. Then looked at his fingers, blood. A small cut, nothing serious. Yet the scent hit Becs like a freight train, everything stopped. Her vision narrowed, the smell filled her senses. Rich, warm and tempting. Her stomach twisted as a strange thirst exploded inside her.
Need, the thought wasn’t hers. It belonged to some ancient dormant part of her, something even deeper than Luna. It had finally awakened, Luna suddenly became frightened.
Becs
The scent grew stronger.
Blood
Need
Mine
Becs’s eyes flashed crimson, everyone suddenly understood and stepped back. Etahn froze.
“Oh”
The Gamma suddenly understood.
“Oh, that’s not good.”
The thirst consumed her, she wasn’t looking at Ethan anymore. She was looking at the blood, every instinct screamed.
Feed
Becs lunged, the field erupted into chaos. Ethan barely reacted in time, a blur intercepted her. Strong arms wrapped around her waist, Killian.
“Becs!”
She fought him. Not because she wanted to, but because of the thirst and consumed all rational thinking. The scent of blood overwhelmed everything.
Need
Need
Need.
A second pair of arms grabbed her, Lucas. Together they held her, barely. Crimson eyes glowed, fangs extended. The entire training field stared, the secret was out. The lost princess was not just a werewolf, she was also a vampire. And her vamprie side had arrived to the party.
“Becs,” Killian tried again to get her attention. This time it worked, his voice cut thrugh the thirst.
“Becs, look at me.” Killian moved in front of her, trying to get her attention. But she couldnt, the blood. All she could smell was the blood.
Then he grabbed her face, forcing her gaze to him. His silver eyes met her crimson, they could feel the mate bond push them to each other. Finally she could think, she felt the warmth surge through her. Killian gave her safety, he was her home. The thirst faltered
“Breathe”
The command reached her, somehow.
“”Breathe”
Becs gasped, then again and again. Slowly the thirst retreated, it wasnt gone but she could controll it and herself. For now.
The moment she regained herself completly, horror filled her face.
“Oh God.”
The field remained silent, everyone just stared from Becs to Killian and back to Becs.
Eathan touched his jaw, then laughed. A deep boming sound.
“Well I’d say that was a win, and a good way to end training for the day.”
Becs wanted to die, she lost controll in front of so many people. She wondered if the pack would still accept her now, she wondered if Killian would send her away and reject her.
Becs didn’t go down for dinner that night, she sat on the balcony in the room over looking the forest shes always loved and admired. She felt mortified about what happed at the training grounds. Absoutley mortified, she had nearly attacked Ethan. In front of everyone, fanastic.
She was lost in her thoughts when Killian walked to her holding two mugs. One coffee, one tea, he handed her the mug with tea and sat beside her. They didnt speak, Becs just stared into her mug. Finally Becs broke the silance
“What if I cant learn to controll it?”
Killian looked at her with the smile he reserved only for her.
“You will.”
“What if I hurt someone?”
“You won’t”
The certanity in his voice suprised her, he wasn’t guessing. He believed it. The realization eased some of her fear. Not all, but some. Their bond hummed warmly, comforting. They went back to sitting in comfortable silence, Becs laid her head on Killians shoulder. She liked how comfortable she was around him, when she looked up she caught him staring at her.
She looked into his eyes, then her gaze dropped to his lips. Becs’s heart skipped a beat, she felt her cheeks heat up. The bond just pulsed more, making them both suckin a sharp breath. Neither looked away, slowly Killian reached up a brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, his hand lingered. Finally Becs closed the distance, and their lips met in the softess gentle kiss.
A promise rather than a demand. The bond exploded with warmth, moonlight wrapped around them, home. Killian was her home. When they finally pulled apart, both were smiling. Luna was pratcially dancing in her head.
We kissed!
We kissed
Becs rolled her eyes, but she couldnt stop smiling. She leaned her head back on Killians shoulder and they sat in comfortable silence watching the night sky.
The next morning Killian when looking for Ava, after searching for her he found her buried beneath a mountain of ancient books. The healer looked exhausted.
“You look terrible.”
“Thank you”
Killian sat down across from her.
“Becs’s vampire side emerged yesterday.”
Ava strightened immediately hearing that.
“Already?”
“She tried to drink from Ethan.”
The healer blinked several times, before responding,
“Okay”
“Yeah thats what I thought too.”
Killian leaned forward
“I need answers, she needs answers”
Ava sighed, of course he did. And Becs deserved answers.
“Answers about what?”
“Hybrids”
His silver eyes darkened, shadow was trying to come forward. They were both concerned for their mate.
“Their abilities, their history, their weaknesses, their strengths. More importantly are there any prophecies connected to them”
Ava’s expression changed. Concern flashed in her eyes. Because prophecies were rarely good.
“I’ll start looking, I’ll let you know when I find something.”
–In the Shadowlands–
Meanwhile, far away in the shadowlands. The Rogue King stood before a wall of black stone. Moonlight illuminated his crimson eyes, dark magic crackled around him. A hooded figure approached from the shadows.
The traitor, the person Queen Lyra and King Adrian trusted most. The person who betrayed them and led them to s*******r. The person who helped destroy the kingdom.
“The princess wolf has awakened.”
The Rouge King’s smile was cold and cruel.
“And her vampire side?”
The hooded figure nodded
“It emerged today.”
The King’s smile widened.
“Excellent”
The figure hesitated.
“Why?”
The Rogue King turned toward the darkness, in the direction of the northern werewolf territory. Where his niece was.
“Becasue now.”
His voice became a whisper.
“The real war begins”
And for the first time in seventeen years the shadowlands began preparing for war.
