Mikeyla got ready by wearing a pair of jeans, black ankle boots, a grey shirt and a camouflage coat, not forgetting her sunglasses. She came out of her room to see Bucky sitting in the couch
"You ready to go?" she asked
"Yeah" Bucky said nodding. Mikeyla put a hand on her hip and looked him up and down. He had jeans, combat boots, a red shirt, a brown jacket and a black glove in his left hand
"You know, maybe if you tie your hair, people won't recognize you that easy" she said pulling out a hair band from her wrist and handing it to him. He hesitantly took it
"How does this work?" he asked, she smiled
"Here, let me help you" she said and Bucky gave her back the hair tie, she walked around Bucky and stood behind him standing on her tip toes, she ran her fingers though his hair and noticed Bucky shivered slightly but tried to hide it, she put his hair in a small ponytail and then let to "Done"
Bucky reached up his hand to feel his hair and turned to Mikeyla
"Thank you"
"No problem. Let's get going" she said with a smile before walking towards the door grabbing her purse on the way. Bucky put on his cap and followed
Mikeyla drove them to different kinds of boutiques where they could buy men clothes. She kept pulling out clothes for him and he also chose some by himself. They also bought sunglasses so he could hide his eyes and hygiene items like razors, men shampoo, aftershave, and other stuff like that.
"Why the scarf?" he asked
"Well, it soon will be winter, besides it looks great" Mikeyla said
"And the formal clothes? Really I can just do with some shirts and a couple of pants"
"No way, you need variety, you can't always wear jeans or sweatpants" she said putting the clothes he had just tried, but the cashier
"And the different shoes?" he said
"Your boots will be worn out in a month" Mikeyla said while the cashier checked the clothing
"Mikeyla, there's really no need for all of this" he said
"Yes it is, I said I was going to help you and I will. So suck it up" she said while watching some lip gloss trying to decide between the red one and the pink one, she grabbed both in each hand and stared at them "Which one looks better?" she asked and looked back to Bucky. He was shocked to be asked for his opinion
"Uh, um, I don't know, both?" he answered nervously
"You're totally right, I'll take both" she said and handed them to the cashier too
"Will that be all?" the cashier asked
"Yes, please" Mikeyla said with a polite smile
"Right, that'd be $300" the cashier said. Bucky's eyes widened behind Mikeyla, she only smiled and took out her wallet but was stopped by a hand in her wrist
"I can't ask you to do this for me, that's a lot of money" he said
"No it's not, I usually spend the double when I go shopping. Don't worry about it, really" she said with a smile and paid the cashier. Bucky still felt a bit guilty for making Mikeyla spend her money on him, still he was grateful. The cashier gave them the bags and Bucky took the heavier ones "Thanks, have a good day" Mikeyla said to the cashier with a smile
"Thanks, you too" the cashier replied with an impressed but happy expression. Mikeyla was usually really polite
"So, it's about lunch time, wanna grab something to eat? Maybe a coffee?" Mikeyla said to Bucky while she opened the trunk of her car and put some bags there, Bucky following her actions. As a cue, Bucky's stomach growled and he looked embarrassed. Mikeyla giggled "I take that as a yes" she started to walk to the driver's seat but, out on instinct, Bucky reached it before her and opened the door for her, she smiled at him and blushed a little "Thank you" The sight of Mikeyla blushing made him give a small smile, once she was on the car, he got on the passenger's seat "So, what do you feel like? Chinese? Italian?" she asked and turned to a confused Bucky
"Um... American?" he said with confusion. Mikeyla laughed
"I meant the food, silly" she cleared
"Oh" Bucky said in realization "Um, I don't know, you choose"
"Hm, Italian is my favorite, but I had pizza last week. What about pasta?" she asked
"Yeah, sure" Bucky said with a shrug. Mikeyla smiled and they drove away
They arrived to a small Italian restaurant, not fancy. Every time they stepped out of the car, Bucky would look around making sure the area was safe, Mikeyla grabbed his hand and led him towards the restaurant
"Good evening, table for two?" the hostess asked
"Yes, please" Mikeyla answered
"In a not so much crowded area if it's possible" Bucky talked "please" he added
"Of course, follow me" the hostess said and guided them to their table and handed them the menu
"Alright, hmm... steak sounds good but so does pasta, but I haven't had aracini in a while... "Mikeyla thought out loud before glancing up at Bucky. He was looking around the restaurant to analyze the area and find the emergency exits "Bucky" she called catching his attention "You can relax, there's almost no one here"
"Sorry, it's a habit" Bucky said avoiding eye contact and mentally kicking himself for making her uncomfortable
"Don't apologize" Mikeyla said "Have you had Italian food before?" she asked changing the topic
"I think so..." he said "I remember going to Italy back in the war"
"Really? I've always wanted to go, it's one of the places I have to visit before dying" she said with a smile. Bucky didn't answer, he kept trying to remember more about his past and Mikeyla could see the troubled look in his eyes "So, what do you feel like eating today?"
"Uh..." Bucky snapped out of his memories and looked at the menu "Uh, I'd think I've tried the Alfredo ravioli" he said "I think I've had it before"
"Nice choice" Mikeyla said "I feel like pasta so I'll have Bolognese spaghetti" she decided "And a mineral lemonade. Although I love red wine, it doesn't sound good this early. Don't wanna get drunk at 2 in the afternoon" she said with a smile. Bucky didn't answer, he didn't talk that much in general, but Mikeyla planned on changing that, she planned of forcing him to talk
"Are you ready to order?" a waitress asked coming to their table
"Yes" Mikeyla said with a smile "I'll have a mineral lemonade and Bolognese spaghetti please" the waitress nodded and turned to Bucky
"Alfredo ravioli and a coke" he said "Please" he added having to remind himself to use his manners
"Alright, I'll be right back with your drinks"
"Thanks" Mikeyla said and waited for the waitress to leave before starting her plan to make Bucky pen up to her "So, Bucky. Let's find out more about yourself, what's your favorite color?" she asked leaning her elbow on the table to look at him
"Uh... blue, navy blue" he said nodding "What about you?" he asked back
"Red" she answered "Favorite animal?"
"Mmm... dogs and cats, but I like dogs more" he said "Yours?"
"Ironically, wolves" she said with a smile
"Why ironically?" he asked. Mikeyla didn't want to bring up the supernatural again and fortunately, she didn't have to as the waitress came placing the glasses and straws in front of them
"Favorite hobby?" she asked while tearing out only the upper part of the plastic around the straw
"Uh...." Bucky though for a while "Cleaning my weapons?" he said unsure "But uh, I remember I used to dance a lot and I enjoyed it"
"I like to dance too, you should teach me how you danced back in the forties" she said putting the upper part of the straw in her lips
"Yeah, if I remember" Bucky mumbled. Suddenly, Mikeyla blew through the straw an the rest of the plastic went out flying directly to Bucky's chest. He jumped slightly at the sudden object and Mikeyla giggled, Bucky tried hard to conceal his smile "Did you just attacked me with the plastic of a straw?" he asked disbelieving
"Maybe I did, maybe I didn't" Mikeyla said with a big smile. Bucky grabbed his own straw and pushed the straw out by one end, he then tried to do the same but the plastic didn't come out. Mikeyla laughed at Bucky's frown "That's not how you do it" she said still laughing. After some seconds of trying not to laugh, Bucky ended up laughing too. They laughed together for some seconds, Mikeyla stopped before Bucky and smiled sweetly at him, she was glad she had made him laugh, it was something he needed and she was glad she could provide it to him
"I can't remember the last time I laughed like that" he said still with a smile. Mikeyla's smile widened
"My dad, brother and I used to have small fight with the plastic of the straws, it was always funny to see their shocked expressions" she explained before sipping on her lemonade. Bucky still smiled
"Thank you" he said honestly
"For what?" Mikeyla asked
"Healing me, taking care of me, offering to help me, making me laugh, making me smile" he said with a smile that now reached his eyes "I don't think I can thank you enough"
"Seeing you smile is the best thanks you can give me" she said sincerely "Besides, you look more handsome when you smile" she smirked. Bucky let out a breath of a laugh
"You really are something, Mikeyla" he said shaking his head a little
"I'll take that as a compliment" she said leaning back on her chair giving Bucky a half smile which he returned with a wide smile
