Ari's POINT OF VIEW
Was this how I died? From an ordinary life, to a rejected mate, and then, death?
Was that the progression of my life?
I was in a black hole – an endless pit of darkness – and it scared me even more. Was I going to stay here forever?
In my state of despair, I realized that I was no longer in my wolf form. Did we both die together? Or was she going to reincarnate and be someone else's wolf?
If so, that meant I was all alone in this abyss.
"Lumi?" I called out to her, hoping that maybe, by some luck, I'd get a response from her, but I was met with silence.
If this was where I was going to be for eternity, then I might as well just die again for the umpteenth time!
"Why would you let me die, Moon Goddess?! Why!" I cried out to no one in particular.
"I have lived all my life as though in solitary confinement. Hated by people for no reason, no physical strength…"
I sniffled.
"And then the one thing that I had thought would bring light to my dark life, wasn't even meant to be!!"
I yelled out to whoever was watching.
"Are you even real? If you are, then I demand an explanation for all of this. At least let me know what I did, that was so bad to be punished with such a fate!"
Crumbling to an invincible floor, I wailed. I bawled my eyes out until I had no strength left in me. All I had left was a terrible headache as a gift for all the crying.
"Just tell me… give me another chance if you're real."
"I can't end like this."
The words came out in whispers until there was nothing left to say anymore. Finally, closing my eyes to let even more darkness engulf me, I felt something touch me.
It was soothing… almost motherly.
I lifted my head to see whoever it was, and I was mate with the most ethereal being I had ever seen.
"Maybe she was the Moon Goddess!" I thought in excitement.
"Goodness no! I'm not the Moon Goddess." The voice said, her aura matching the sound of her voice.
" You're not?" I sniffled. "Who are you then?"
Her glowing presence did nothing to hide her smile.
"I'm Lyra Mikaelson, and I come from a long line of healers," she said.
"Healers? That's interesting. But I'm a werewolf and not a healer."
Maybe there was a confusion somewhere? Why would she reach out to me?
I had a lot of questions to ask, and, if possible, keep her there with me for as long as I could. The loneliness was already creeping in.
"Well, you come from a descendant of healers. You may be a werewolf, but you have healing abilities flowing through your veins, Ari."
" You know my name?"
Chuckling warmly, she responded. " Of course I know your name. For a hundred years, there's been no healer in our family for generations. All that changed the day you were born."
"Your parents are werewolves, but generations past, some of the healers in our family were mated with Werewolves. Now, understand that werewolves weren't the only shifters in our family, but humans too."
" But I don't understand. Why me?"
"A time will come when all of your questions will be answered. And when that time comes, you'll know all the healers in our family tree, Ari," Lyra said, coming closer to me with each step she took.
Just when I was starting to believe her, it dawned on me that I was already dead, so her grand scheme of things was all going downhill.
"Well, this is all interesting, but for your information, I'm already dead. Probably why I'm stuck here with you."
The more she smiled at me, the more she glowed even brighter.
"Dead? Honey, you aren't dead. All you need to do is wake up now."
Now it was my turn to laugh.
"And how am I going to do that? I can't just jerk myself back up to life. This isn't some resurrection story!"
I was beginning to feel some level of vexation. Was she here to mock me or what?
"Take my hand, Ari. You don't belong here."
"I see, and I belong with you?"
When she saw that I wasn't going to budge, she grabbed my hands, and we started floating upwards.
At such great speed, I didn't know what else was happening around me until I jerked back up.
My breathing was erratic. I looked around my environment, and it didn't look familiar at all. I was in strange territory.
I gazed down on myself, doing a quick one on my body.
I'm back?! I'm no longer dead?!
I suppressed the urge to cheer out loud when my throat hurt the minute I tried to do so.
"I see you're awake." Said a voice from a direction I knew not.
"Hello? Who is this?" I asked, but it came out croaked. It almost sounded like a frog for a minute.
The door to the room I was in turned, indicating that someone was about to come in. I didn't know where I was, I didn't know who was coming in!?!
My breathing hitched in my throat as a female person walked in with a small basket of leaves – maybe herbs – before dropping them on the table beside me.
"Who are you?" I asked again. This time, my voice was a bit clearer.
Maybe I was hallucinating when I saw what looked like a sinister smile on her face before it disappeared in an instant.
"My name is Lilith, and I was the one who rescued you from drowning a few hours ago," this supposed Lilith spoke.
She didn't look scary at all, but that didn't mean that I trusted her.
"You're one lucky soul to have fallen into the river when I was at the foot of the cliff, collecting herbs."
" You don't look so scary to me, so, thank you for saving me."
