The Witch and The Hybrid

Chapter 4-Movie in the Park

 HONK HONK, I blare my horn as we pull up outside Rachel's house, Kimberly's in the backseat with Bonnie reading her one of her books about princesses. Rachel finally emerges from her house, she'd 5'3 with long black hair pulled into a ponytail, pale skin and the purest black eyes that resemble a black hole. "Took you long enough" I yell with a laugh as she makes her way to the car.

"Shut up" she laughs as she climbs into the front seat. "Let's go or we won't get a good spot" she says putting her seat belt on.

"We have plenty of time don't worry" I said pulling away from the curb.

"Hey there Bonnie" Rachel says to Bonnie as she turns to look in the backseat. Bonnie smiles at Rachel and Rachel smiles back. "You better not be reading a scary story Kim" Rachel scolds Kim.

"I'm not, it's a princess story with a very happy ending" Kim spats back.

Rachel is a succubus demon, she sucks dark dreams and memories from people. The dark stuff gives her energy and besides she's doing a good service taking away the bad stuff. She's had to take away a couple bad dreams from Bonnie before because Emmett told her a scary story, I thought Rachel was going to hurt him for that.

"How are the plans coming for the party?" Rachel asks me about mine and Emmett's birthday party which will take place after our blessing ceremony on our 18th birthday in two weeks.

"It's coming along as long as Emmett doesn't try and change anything" I say. My mom and I have been planning this thing for the last three months and the only help Emmett has put in is about the food, he's completely useless.

"Don't worry, if he knows what's good for him he'll just leave it to you and your mom" Rachel says smiling at me, I smile and nod in agreement.

We pull into the parking lot of the park, as I pull towards an empty spot I notice Michael sitting on the hood of his black Chevy Camaro. I pull into the spot next to his car, he jumps off his car as I turn off my car, he walks over to my door and opens it for me.

"Hey there beautiful" he says with a sexy smile then takes my hand to help me out of the car.

"Hey there yourself handsome" I say back giving him a shyly smile. "How did the meeting go? I thought you were going to call me when you were done?" I ask looking at him. He just stands there staring at me, I feel like he wants to say something but he doesn't he just hold my hands and looks at me. "Are you okay?" I ask him, he shakes his head no and smiles at me.

"Excuse me, but can we please go find a good spot before the movie starts!" Rachel yells pulling Michael and I out of our trance.

"Oh yeah" I say looking around, Kim already has Bonnie out of the car and Rachel is at the trunk waiting for me to open it. I walk to the trunk with Michael in tow, I open the trunk and Rachel grabs the blankets, Michael takes the picnic basket and puts it on the cooler and picks them both up with ease. Not only is he the most good looking guy I know but he's strong too, I can't help but gawk at him. "Do you need help with that?" I ask him as I close the trunk and set my alarm.

"No, I've got it" he replies giving me a smile.

We start walking to the center of the park where there's a giant screen, there's also tables to one side where snacks and drinks are being set out. We find the perfect spot to sit, it's not too close and not too far from the screen. Rachel and I lay out the blankets, Michael sets down the cooler and basket, Kim puts Bonnie on one of the blankets as we all settle down onto our designated blankets.

"Are you ready for the movie Bon Bon?" I ask her with a smile, she smiles at me and nods her head. She stands up and walks over to Michael and sits between his legs, he puts his arms around her and gives her a squeeze which makes her giggle.

"Who's my favorite girl?" He asks kissing her head.

"I am" she happily replies giving him a kiss on the cheek.

"That's right! You'll always be my favorite girl" he says picking her up and putting her on his shoulders. He looks me and smiles before putting her back down on the blanket. I smile back at him then turn my attention to the basket.

"Who's hungry?" I ask opening the basket.

"What are we eating?" Kim asks grabbing a water out of the cooler.

"I've made baked chicken, potato salad, corn on the cob and my personal salad" I say pulling the containers of food out of the basket.

"Mmm, that sounds delicious" Michael says smiling. "I love your baked chicken, it's the best I've ever had" he exclaims still smiling.

"You know if you keep smiling like that your mouth will end up sticking that way" Rachel proclaims looking at Michael with a raised eyebrow. "Why are you smiling so much anyway?" she asks.

"Well I wasn't going to say anything yet but the God and Goddess chose to keep me as a hybrid, I get to remain a witch/genie" he tells us excitedly.

"Really?" I ask excitedly clapping my hands. "I'm so happy for you" I say giving him a hug.

"Wow, congratulations man" Rachel says smiling. She never smiles so this is something special so I snap a picture before she stops. "You better delete that" she tells me giving me an evil glare.

"Nope, this is going in my memory book" I proclaim giving a smirk.

"Congrats, your Gods must have something important for you in your future" Kim exclaims. "So what's going to happen with schooling?" she asks curiously.

"The Elders told me that I will be splitting my time between California and Cairo" he says with a hopeful look.

"That means we'll still see each other in the Fall" I state with hope in my eyes. He looks at me with a big smile and nods.

"Who gets to see who in the Fall?" Emmett asks walking up to us with his friend Darren by his side.

"Michael is" Kim replies looking at Emmett with raised eyebrows just daring him to say something snarky.

"Congrats man, so you're a full fledged witch now?" Emmett says with a raised brow.

"Nope" Michael says popping the p. "The God and Goddess decided to leave me the way I am" He states glaring at my brother waiting to see if he says something snarky.

"Wow, congrats man" Darren says with a smile then walks to Michael and gives him a fist bump. "Your God and Goddess must have something special planned for you" he continues while sitting down on the blanket next to Kim.

Emmett just stands there glaring at Michael, then he turns to glare at Darren who just looks at him with a raised brow. He finally stares at me, I give him a judging glare daring him to say something. He looks at me then sighs "Congratulations I guess" he says to Michael then looks at Darren who gets up and they both walk away.

"Well that was interesting" Michael exclaims watching Emmett and Darren walk away. The four of us look at each other then we all bust out laughing. The skies become dark and the movie starts, we all relax with our plates and watch the movie while eating.

The movie comes to an end and everyone starts clapping, I start packing up the picnic basket while Michael and Kim take the garbage to the trash cans. Bonnie's laying on one of the blankets asleep so Rachel and I fold the other one. Michael and Kim come back over, Kim picks up Bonnie so Rachel and I can fold the other blanket. Michael picks up the cooler and basket and we make our way to the parking lot. As we reach my car I push a button on my key to pop open the trunk, Kim opens the back door to put Bonnie in her car seat while Michael, Rachel and I go to put the picnic stuff in the trunk. As soon as everything is in the car Rachel goes to get in the front seat, I close up the trunk and turn to Michael "So" I say trying to read his face.

"So, um, call or text me when you get home okay" he says. "I don't want to be worrying about you all night" he continues.

"Okay" I tell him grabbing his hand. "Are you okay? You look like there's something on your mind. You know you can tell me anything" I tell him giving him a pleading look.

"It's nothing you have to worry about" he tells me looking away from me.

I take his chin in my hand and make him look at me "You're hiding something from me. What is it?" I give him a stern look.

He lets out a big sigh "I got my scroll today" he exclaims looking at his hands.

"Oh" I say with surprise. "Does that mean you didn't get a vision on your birthday?" I ask him.

"No, I got my vision" he responds. "There's only one name on the scroll" he states.

"Oh" I give him a hopeful look. "So who is she? Do we know her?" I question him.

"It doesn't matter, I can't say anything about it until she gets her vision" he exclaims.

"She's not 18 yet?" I ask him. "So you do know her?" I look at him with disappointment. I felt my heart sink, if he knows her and he can't tell me then that means it's not me. I can feel the tears wanting to come out but I hold them back, I lower my head so he can't see the disappointment in my eyes. "I should go, I have to get Bonnie home and into bed" I tell him. Before I could turn away from him he put one hand on my cheek cupping it.

"Look at me Emma" I turn my face to look at him, his eyes look glossy like he's holding back tears himself. "I hate keeping things from you but it's the rules of mating and you know that" he tells me looking deep into my eyes. "I promise everyone will know soon and I hope you'll forgive me" he finished saying pulling his hand away from my face. He turns and walks to his car then turns to look at me the he gets into his car. I get into the driver seat of my car just as he drives away, I grip the steering wheel then put my head down and tears start to fall.

"What happened?" Kim asks putting her hands on my shoulders.

"What did he say to you? Do i have to kick his ass?" Rachel puts her hand on my head.

I finally lean back into my seat, i turn my face to look at Rachel and Kim "He received his scroll today, he knows who his soulmate is but he said he can't tell me. He said that everyone will find out soon" I tell them with tears in my eyes. "I guess I'm just a little disappointed, i always hoped that maybe I would be his soulmate" I said wiping the tears off my face.

"I'm sorry Emma" Rachel says rubbing my shoulder. "To be honest we all thought you two would end up as soulmates, I mean you guys have secretly had a thing for each other for years." she tells me.

"It'll be okay, we're here for you whenever you want to rant or cry" Kim exclaims with sympathy.

I look at my friends and give them a small smile. "I'll be okay" I tell them turning the key in the ignition to start the car, I pull out of the parking lot and head home dropping Rachel and Kim off first. I pull into my driveway and notice Emmett sitting on the porch, I turn off the car and get out. Emmett walks over to the car, I give him a disapproving glare then turn to get Bonnie out of the back seat.

"How long is the silent treatment going to last this time?" he asks expecting me to respond.

I press the trunk button then head to the house brushing past him. "Make yourself useful" I say not directly at him, I walk into the house with Bonnie sleeping in my arms. "Mom, dad we're home" I call out into the house. Just as I turn to head into the kitchen to find my parents Emmett walks into the house with the cooler and basket.

"Will you please talk to me" he demands putting the cooler and basket on the floor.

I turn to glare at him "I have nothing to say to you" I shot back.

"Look I'm sorry okay" he says with pleading eyes. "You know how I feel about that hybrid" he states.

"That hybrid?" I shoot back at him with anger. "His name is Michael not hybrid" I hiss at him. "He's my best friend, he used to be your friend too or did you forget that" I snapped at him.

"What's all the commotion?" I hear my dad say walking up to us from the kitchen.

"Nothing" Emmett replies turning away from me.

"NOTHING!" I scream in my head, he says nothing. "you're a piece of work you know that" I hissed at him. "He's a big bigot that's what's going on" I told my dad. My dad gives Emmett a raised brow look.

"What is she talking about Emmett?" he asks my him.

"She's being dramatic, it's a misunderstanding that's all" he tells my dad.

"Dramatic?" I hiss at him. "Michael found out that he gets to stay a hybrid declared by the God Heruka and the Goddess Eliza. Everyone was happy and excited for him, all except Emmett who just glared at him with disappointment and disgust" I told my dad.

My dad gives Emmett a disappointing look "We don't judge others because of their species and you know that. If the God and Goddess chose to leave Michael as a hybrid then there is a purpose for that decision. You guys have been friends since kindergarten, you should be happy for him" my father tells him.

"You're right, I'm sorry dad, I'm sorry Emma" Emmett says with his head down. "I'll apologize to Michael tomorrow" he says looking at me.

"I'll believe it when I see it" I reply as I walk up the stairs so I can put Bonnie to bed. After tucking Bonnie in I head to my room and change into my pajamas then hop into bed, I pull out my phone then text Michael letting him know I was home and going to bed. i crawl under my covers and drift off to sleep.
