‘Please be seated, gentlemen,’ Captain Cozens instructed the two young men after they entered his cabin.
Addressing Harry, the Captain murmured, ‘Right, Mr eh, eh?’
‘Taylor; Harry Taylor, sir.’
‘Ah, yes. I’ve read something about you. Please, Harry, do tell me everything that led up to this unfortunate event. Leave nothing out and do not exaggerate anything to suit your case.’
‘There’s not a lot to tell, sir,’ replied Harry. ‘But I’ll do my best to explain my actions.’
The three men sat comfortably as Harry detailed his account. Ten minutes later, he abruptly finished speaking, gesturing with an open-armed flourish to reinforce the finality of his statement. ‘Well, that’s it, Captain Cozens.’
‘Right. Now, Sergeant Galbraith, I need your account please.’
