The saddle-bags of stolen gold were never found despite four extensive searches, and all three incredibly unlucky men were respectfully buried in the burgeoning Copeland graveyard.
No charges were laid. No subsequent accusations surfaced. Unanswered questions melted away… and Robert was given a highly valued meat supply contract serving Copeland’s voracious populace.
Ever stoic, Clive addressed the Copeland community, reminding them that although the gold was not a king’s fortune and probably an amount that would not pacify all creditors he still, however, felt that although the balance of creditors would be accepting of the loss, their patience and benevolence would nevertheless be well tested.
Regardless, life returned to something like normal at the Mountain Maid Gold Mine. Harry
